Draught and 50 cl bottle at Plevna, Tampere. Opaque black color with a medium tan head. Intense and rich aroma with sweetness, roastedness, wood, vanilla, medicin, licorice, chocolate, coffee, raisins and slight alcohol. An abundant and balanced flavor follows the pattern of the aroma. Also a long and abundant sweetish and gently hoppy aftertaste. The bottled version appears little bit softier and it has more vanilla. A successful barrel aging; cordial thanks to Koskipanimo brewmasters Sam and Jukka (and Markku R. and Timo A.) for this celebration beer!

On tap. Pours pitch black with barely any head; aroma is roasted malty and slightly underlying fruity with notes of vanill, licorice and - milk; flavor is bitter and roasty with balancing vanill sweetness and herbal licorice notes finishing salty; quite full-bodied with low carbonation.

Black colour with no head. Aroma: dark roasted malt, berries, soft alcohol, roasted malt, liquorice, medicine and mint. Flavour: roasted malt, sweet caramel, liquorice, hints of coffee, medicine, salty liquorice, hops and smooth alcohol. Some hops in aftertaste. Well balanced. Warming.

Draught (Pikkulintu, Helsinki) - drunk in the company of Hannu himself!
7 sweet dark fruits,
5 black, and deep tan head, rises very slowly.
8 full burnt roasty body touch of ginger, touch of spice.
4 smooth, soft palate, co2 low. sweet vanilla and gentle burntness in the finish.
15 big and fruity and estery bringing lightness, yet deep and heady. I have to agree with mjs - the normal siperia can be so stunning that this doesn’t lift the beer beyond that. It’s also a bit confusing, as it’s exactly half way between a pesapuu sipper and a siperia quaffer - what size portion and glass should I use!

{thoughts} A well integrated, barrel-aged imperial stout with luscious mouthfeel and a primary focus on chocolate and vanilla. The finish contains some alcohol roughness and the bitterness feels a touch too high for me at this point. The barrel and age treatment does however have the lovely effect of reducing the piny harshness of the original version.

{elements} Deep black hue with the lightest scruff of brown foam. Strong aroma of chocolate and vanilla, bolstered by whiskey and licorice with a tease of pine; raisin and Madeira notes develop with warmth. Forcefully sweet matched by an equally powerful bitterness; acidity is thankfully mild; flavors match the aroma though the bitterness juts out a bit, whiskey noticeable mostly in the aftertaste. Silky texture, full bodied, soft carbonation, slight alcohol roughness. 50 cl bottle at Plevna.

Draught@Pikkulintu. First visit to Pikkulintu for me, nice place! Poured black with a brown foamy head. Aroma was strongly of roasted malt and liquirice. Flavor was bit salty, roasted malts. Slight burn from the alcohol. As the beer got warmer, I could feel some warming sweetness coming through, hard to explain... Dry finish with taste of vanilla. Overall a very enjoyable Imperial Stout.

Draught @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki, Finland. Barrel aged Siperia is just as interesting as the original one. A bit smoother taste with less hoppiness.

(Draught at Pikkulintu) Poured black. Head was small and light brown. Aroma containe hops, vanilla, pine and mildly roastedness. Palate was full bodied and dry with low carbonation. Flavours were roastedness, vanilla, hops, chocolate, pine, wood and bitterness. Aftertaste contained vanilla, roastedness and bitterness. Really good but unfortunately not as good as the best versions of the ordinary Siperia are.
