sayravai (3183), Helsinki, Finland Nov 13, 2005 (Draught@Pikkulintu, Helsinki) Pitch black color with a smallish, creamy, lasting and lacy, beige head. Yeasty, roasted-malty aroma with some wineous, earthy character when warm. Very malty, very dryish-aromatic-hoppy and bitter, yet balanced flavor with smoke hints. Very thick, creamy, full-bodied palate with smooth carbonation. The hops completely take over when warm. Finally a Finnish Imperial Stout - and an excellent one, too!
Papsoe (10367), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 7, 2008 (On tap) Pours black and opaque with a light brown head. Sweet aroma of vanilla and hard roasted malt. Quite full-bodied with distinctly sweet hard roasted malt. Has a light malt bitterness. A friendly Imperial Stout, but perhaps a little to the overly sweet side. 120908 asheft (951), Marburg, Germany Oct 5, 2008 [on tap at EBF 2008]
Roasted barley bubblegum aroma with, surprisingly, a lot of US hops, though a touch weak aroma overall. Opaque black with good lacing, khaki cover. Quite hoppy flavour with surprisingly low dark malt contributions. Sour and warm dark Schwarzbier-like malt character. A bit weak. Sweet hops *feel* but low flavour. Moderate ethanol, smoke, and nut flavours as well. Medium body, warming, almost clean finish. Moderate carbonation. larsniclas (3031), Gothenburg, Sweden Oct 5, 2008 Sampled at EBF08.
Black. Small, beige head.
Roasted with a very flowery hoppiness.
Thicka and oily palate.
Flavour packed with american hops. Maria (4380), Thisted, Denmark Oct 4, 2008 EBF2008. It’s pitch black with a creamy head. The aroma is surprisingly strong and pleasantly hoppy and I also find notes of roasted malt. The flavour has a great hoppyness and a nice bitterness, notes of roasted malt, bitter licorice, coffee and caramel. It’s very nice indeed. bager (2060), Copenhagen N, Denmark Oct 3, 2008 On tap @ EBF 08. Pours black as pitch with a medium sized head. Nicely balanced with powerfull aromas. Roasted, hops, hops and more hops. Great.
