Plevna’s Stout has become a true classic: Irish-style dry stout with a creamy head and a round, soft flavour. Recommended to anyone who enjoys a good stout.

While drinking this last night on draft at the Villi Waino pub I thought it might be a bit spoiled, but now I see it’s described as an Irish stout, so maybe that tart tang was intended. Served with a thin fine tan head and some lace. color was an opaque brown black. Aroma was malt, roast, licorice, medicinal. Flavor is similar but tartness comes out and medicinal character is also forward, plus has some coffee. Body is good and so is carbonation. Finish is like flavor and long. Not a session for me.

Tap @ Plevnan, Tampere. Pours clear black brown with a great longlasting beige creamy head leaving nice lacing. Aroma is very malty, roasted, caramel, coffee and licorice. Flavor is quite sweet, roasted, licorice, coffee, bitter and fruity. Very nice longlived bitter sweet finish.

Draught at Kaisla. Pours black with some wooden, colaish tinges against the light and a large, thick, foamy, milk chocolate-colored head. Beautiful. Aroma is strongly of piney hops with some roasted malts and coffee underneath. The pour is very cold and as the beer warms up, the coffee and espresso tones become stronger while the pine lessens. One can even detect some bitter chocolate in there. Taste is very piney as well though the coffee and espresso flavors are very strong as well. Again, as the beer warms up, the hops recede and roasted malts and espresso become stronger and dark chocolate shows up with his buddy, liquorice. Palate is full and sticky.

Draught, Oluthuone Kaisla, Helsinki. Oily pitch- fully opaque with a slim cappuccino collar and lace frills. Neopolitan ice cream and blackcurrant aroma over coal and mocha. Deep with dusty, burnt cocoa bitterness, blackcurrant streaks, burnt wood. Grapefruit and burnt toast finish; long, ash-covered aftertaste. Too fizzy in the US style. Good layered bramble fruit dusted with drinking choc, nut husk, soap. Good, but not as good as the piles of greasy salmon toasties that fed us for 2 days afterwards.

Draught. Enjoyable black stout. Nice aroma hops, fruity and slightly floral. Fresh malt character, smoothly roasted and slightly smoky barley. Overall maltiness is quite dry, but light yeastiness and the hops give fruitiness. Bitterish finish. Rich malt body, soft texture.

Draught@Villi Wäinö. Poured black color with a thin head. Aroma is roasted malt and strong coffee. Flavor is roasted malts, ash and dry hops. Finish is very dry. I could have taken this for an imperial stout.
