Sweet sugar and cinnamon aroma. Dark brown body topped with a decent off-white head and o.k. lacing. Medium bodied and sweet caramel covered apple flavor, hints of chocolate with a mostly dry finish. Surprisingly flavorful.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 cking (1175) - North Canton, Ohio, USA - JUN 2, 2007
Rated 2/3/07: Aroma is nice and sweet, bready with some dark brown sugar. Poured more of a dark amber color, thin head and minimal lacing. Light to medium mouthfeel, clean finish. Flavor is essentially a nice helping of sweet malt with a slight bitterness in the end. Decent dunkel, really enjoyed this one.

500ml bottle - This brew has an inviting dark ruby color with a thin head. The aroma is light caramel malt. The sweet caramel malt flavor is supported by mild but well balanced hops that leads into a moderately hopped finish. It’s light bodied and easy to drink, a beer that’s far from great, but fairly good for sessions.

25-Feb-07 500ml bottle, _Podkovan Dark Premium Czech Beer_ Dark caramel color with lasting but thin head of even beige foam. Aroma is ripe with caramel, light milk cocoa, toasted nuts, prune. Wow, this is rich and inviting and a real shock after that pils I just drank. Like the other beer, this has some backgroudn notes of apple must in the aroma and flavor, but the rich, full, and persistent roast flavors really dominate. Medium light body is a bit of a letdown as it’s not keeping up with the flavor, but it’s probably right on par for what it should be. Medium eff. Lingering mild roast bitterness and emerging coffee notes blend nicely with the lasting nuttiness. I’m just noticing, too, the low ABV. I could drink this all night.

Bottle. Poured a deep amber color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate burnt malt aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium burnt malt and caramel flavor with a small bitter finish of average duration.

Not bad. Poured amber with a very small white string head. The taste was very clean and at the same time malty. I thought it was very well balanced. Czech dark beers are usually nothing special but this was great. Delicious and tasty!

Bottle from Joe Canal’s. Sweet malt, honey, caramel, nut and dark bread aroma. The body is a dark amber/brown color with red hues and a diminishing bubbly tan head. Fore is quite sweet with stewed raisin, honey, carmelized sugars, caramel sweet malt and molasses int he aroma. It’s fairly sweet, but also kind of delicate. Has some very mild toasty, nutty notes but it’s too sweet so they are hard to pick out. Still....it’s a decent enough Dunkel and I’m happy to have had it. Mouthfeel is pretty dead on for the style.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JAN 27, 2007
In the 500 mL bottle from HyVee CB. Incredible price of $1.99, so I did not have high hopes for this one. Pours a reddish dark brown with a medium beige head. Faint aroma that is a bit nutty and a bit roasted or burnt, but not much. The flavor is not too bad, roasted taste and a pronounced candy sweetness, not a malty sweetness. Fairly thin body. Good for the money.
