nickspies (76), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jul 29, 2008 2008-07-22 from bottle: Some roasted notes in aroma…clean and crisp…slight ester. Deep copper color…nice and clear, but not much head. Roasted nut flavor…clean and refreshing. Finish is to style.
Heathen (525), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Sep 17, 2008 THOUGHTS: Not a bad beer, but not great either. Just a so, so dunkel. It was probably quite good once, but age ha taken its toll, because the flavor starts great, but then falls apart and it smelled nice except for the underlying skunk.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark, brownish red with a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was moderate roasted, nutty and caramel malt, along with hint of chocolate, slight skunk and cola. The initial flavor was moderately sweet; while the finish was light to moderately sweet, lightly acidic and moderately bitter with a short duration. There was roasted, caramel and nutty malt, then metal and a little skunk. The light to medium body was mostly watery with fairly soft carbonation and a metallic, slightly chalky, light astringent finish. doublebock (165), USA Sep 16, 2008 Light brown translucent color. Malty, musty and cork aroma. Taste has caramel and coffee notes with a somewhat flat palate. SSSteve (1616), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 30, 2008 dark amber beer under a small creamy beige head. lightnutty, caramel aroma. flavors of brown sugar, and sweet tea. again, a bit overdue but reminiscent of what used to be a decent dunkel. Rockinout (945), Kent, Ohio, USA Aug 11, 2008 Bottle. Dark amber in color, lasting tan head. Caramel, fresh baked bread, almost has a banana nut bread nose to it. Some toffee in the taste with plums and other dark fruits.
