Bottle at Päämaja, Mikkeli with the crew of Pohjala Brewery (Peeter and Chris). Pours chestnut-ruby in colour with beige head. Aroma is sweet, toasted dark bread with fruity marmalade notes. Taste is molasses, toasted malts and slightly bitter finish that accumulated with time.

(33 cl bottle from supermarket; BBD: February 6th 2016; Batch #102) Pours a dark copper with three finger tan head that recedes somewhat yet showing good retention and leaving beautiful lace. Aroma has green herbal notes of rye but also pleasant toffee and a bit of sodapop. Oily texture, medium body, medium carbonation and a light, lingering bitter finish. Flavour is well balanced with both sweetness and bitterness and some aroma notes.

330 ml. bottle. BBF 02/03/16. Another wonderful To Øl-like label from these guys. Deep brown amber, creamy light mocha head. Nose is overly sweet & weird, reminiscent of brown bread mixed with very cheap chocolate milk, odd mixture of special grains, dark bread, rye & weird chocolate milk profile. Not entirely successful for me at first but it grew on me the more I drank of it. Taste is odd mix of rye & black bread, Fristi (a milk-based drink popular with kids), cheap packaged chocolate milk, a bit watery chocolate, chicory coffee, light herbs, touch kvass, artificial caramel… It almost seems to be aimed to replicate the memory of a kid’s drink, ‘though that might be personal. A very odd beer, found it almost off-putting at first but I gradually got into it. Taste is slightly packaged bit watery chocolate milk. So far I cannot profess to be the biggest fan of this brewery but they soom to make some rather quirky beers which I always admire.

[2015-09-01, Public House Pivo, Oulu] Tummanruskea, samea, tiheä kermainen vaahto. Tuoksussa on katkeran paahteista ruismallasta. Maku on kuivan rukiinen, katkera ja paahteinen. Täyteläinen runko, sopivasti hiilihappoja.

0.33 l bottle from ferryboat between Helsinki and Tallin. Red brown colour with decent head. Taste is a bit dry, probably from rye. Also, some dark chocolate flavours (from the ABV). Overall, quite balanced.
