Good dark beer. Definitely a good alternative to Guiness. Great dark chocolate taste..

Black, brownish tint. Medium, rocky, tan head. Aroma is grassy, some malt. Flavor not too impactful. Light roastiness, some nutty, small chocolate. There a brightening in there but I wouldnt call it ’sweet’. Body is on the light side. A drying finish.

We had this beer at the 2013 Tops of the Hops in Biloxi, MS. This is a malty beer.

Ho hum... pretty boring outing from Steven’s Point. Really no character, very little flavor, roasted malts deliver a muddy flavor, the "fruity" favors seemed off bringing a musty, skunky experience. Generally drinkable, but nothing to return for.

Dark almost completely black color, with a thick white head that went away quickly, aroma molasses and a bit of chocolate, same as taste, tones of chocolate, nice bitterness not overwhelming.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
The Bodega, Bushwick tap ($6): Pours a blackish color with a creamy head. Aroma is chocolate with roasted malts. Taste is chocolatey, a bit sour, and somewhat sweet. The slight sourness was kind of annoying. All in all, not terrible, but it ain’t the shit.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sweet aroma. Almost got a bit of alcohol in that first good wiff. Nice dark color. 12oz bottle didn’t produce good head and didn’t track, but the flavor was sweet, touch of roast, very slightly bitterness and chocolate on the end, and mild fruits. Good dark ale IMO.

12oz bottle. Black but still clear body. Minimal white head. Nice chocolate and toasty flavor. Medium body, little nice chewiness. Good bitter flavor, light sweet. Nice light chocolate aftertaste, light herbal hops. Solid black ale, though a little plain and mild.

I’ve tried this one before and came back to it when it was an option in a M&M 6 pack. 12 oz. can pours black with a moderate but vanishing tan head and slight lacing. Aroma is mostly roasted malts, but with some caramel and tobacco. Taste is sou rand smoky, with a short, slightly nutty finish. Body is medium, but carbonation is subdued. An OK dark beer, but not one I expect to revisit again.

Tastes of malts, fruit, sweet mollasses. Medium carbonation with a soft mouthfeel.
Quite drinkable, will have again.
