COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the mystery of the ancient Mayan “Long Count” round calendar, Stevens Point Brewery’s brewmasters have created 2012 Black Ale, a dark, robust brew to satisfy beer lovers’ tastes any day of the year. In addition to the Mayan calendar mystery, 2012 Black Ale is inspired by traditional German “schwarzbier,” or black beer. German-style schwarzbiers typically are lagers, but we saw this beer is an opportunity to be more creative. We brewed our interpretation of black beer as an ale, which means more hops as well as fruity notes that come from using an ale yeast. The use of roasted malts adds a slightly burnt character to the beer.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2010 Delicious, roasted coffee flavored beer. Dark and thick, a smooth drink. What better way to go down in the end of the world than drinking beer?

12 oz. Opaque and dark chocolate, with a lasting disc of creamy foam. Very interesting aromas of chocolate, espresso, blackberry, juniper, cream, and graham cracker. The taste is mocha, juniper, tart blackberry, raisin, apple, cream, and roasty notes; all blending into an incredibly different and tasty brew. Medium body has average carbonation and drinks like a really nice sweet stout. Just enough roast and astringent carbonation to provide a balanced finish.

A beer that is dark, with a great malt and hop flavor with very smooth finish. The creativeness paid off and this beer is a winner in my book.

Pours black with a minimal tan head. Slight roasty aroma hint of caramel. Flavor has a medium sweetness, lightly bitter, coffee, roasty. Medium body, moderately bitter. Not bad, Point is coming out of its lager background, and this one is definitely in the right direction for the company

Bariaboo. American ipa. Black ipa. Very nice. Entered this beer on a different app and I'm not able to import my comments unfortunately.

UPDATED: APR 7, 2010 Point has made a great new brew with 2012! It poors very dark with an amber head. Aromas include light coffee and a hint of cacoa. The taste is smooth and flavorful and it goes well with a good pizza. I definitely recommend it - or at least a try.

Appearance: Pours a near black body with an inch and a half head of beige-colored foam. Smell: A pleasant enough intermingling of various notes: Breakfast Blend coffee, toasted nuts, toasted bread, and standard chocolate. Taste: Roasty, toasty malts yield tastes of sugar sweetened, though not particularly bold coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, and (lightly) Brazil nuts. Subtle hop presence displays a lightly earthy herbaceousness and a suitable amount of bitterness. Splash of store-brand cola on the otherwise coffee-hinted, crisp finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation. Drinkability: Easily drinkable and approachable and fairly reminiscent of the Schwarzbier style. While I haven’t had a slew of beers from Stevens Point Brewery, this has been one of the better ones.

Black nectar that folds into the glass with a huge light brown head. Nose is caramel and molasses. Nice and creamy on the palate, the taste is a nice blend of burnt roasted malt, coffee, with hints of chocolate and toffee. Mild finish, no bitterness. Very good beer, one of Point’s finest. Pairs well with chili or cheese and crackers.
