3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Really confused. Saw this as a shwartzbier. Now a brown? Always a pleasure to be one of the first few to get a crack at rating a new brew. [A] Pleasant aroma. Light chocolately. Some smoky roast, and a light coffee. Subtle, but pronounced, with a lagery yeastiness @ some point? Must be the malts. [A] Pours an almost opaque, ruby-hued black. Or almost thin-coffee brown. With a silky, active. Tan-brown head that withers to a skimpy foam. [F] Hops start with a crisp flash of bitter. Nothing big. Followed by some dark fruit. Touch of that smoky roast and chocolate. Followed by another flash of a clean finishing bitter that imparts a citrusy bite. Yeast. Doughy afterward. And a mingled linger of it all. More depth than I had assumed, but still lacking. [P] Mouth is light and thin. The bitter quality is likeable. Not an exteme brew. Drinkable. But there are much more sessionable brews. [O] $5.49 a 6pack. Can’t go wrong. This was a pretty agreeable brew. Nothing over the top. I will still give this brew some points.

From bottle. Pours black with tan head that looks like felt. Nose has licorice and lager yeast. Light body, caramel malt with a bit of roasted malt. Slightly metallic finish. Odd.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Totally solid black body with a medium purplish-tan head. Smells of licorice and coffee. Taste is deep, mildly sweet with licorice, yeast & hops, mild coffee. Finishes clean, slightly astringent.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
100th American beer. Quite light nice enough balance with a hint of vanilla and a dry finish, but none of the flavours are that powerful leaving it a bit bland overall. Disappointing.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from Rhythm and Booze, Ripon. Very dark mahogany with no head - almost black. Not much aroma. Slight vegetable smell perhaps. Little in the way of flavours. A bit of vegetable, a touch of coffee and caramel. Reminded me of coke without the sugar. Not great.

1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
kinda sour, kinda malty, kinda undrinkable. It is in line with the rest of this brewer, who misses the mark on all their products.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
$1.79 for the 12 oz. bottle purchased on Thursday evening at Top Shelf Brews. To pint, it pours a purplish dark brown, with a sudsy vanilla cream head 1 finger in length. Aromas straightaway of black licorice, milk chocolate, raspberry jam, and American yeast, followed by charcoal, bay leaves, and grass trimmings. Tastes the same with the addition of roasted wheat, molasses, and noble hops by swallow. I like.

Opaque dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is minerally crisp. Super light dark malt with a little lactose. Touch of molasses. Dry finish. Not bad.

Nose, is toast, slight biscuit, cherry, slight lactose; all underpowered. Taste coffee, licorice, cherry and fruits some pepper and spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is quite full but over carbonate.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body with a one finger fizzy light brown head that faded to a thin film. The nose is licorice laced with some slight sweetness and a mild hoppiness. A little bit of fruitiness here that doesn’t quite fit with the Schwarzbier style, but I guess that’s intentional? The flavor is pretty decent up front, some licorice and light roast with minimal biterness. It finishes a bit thin and weak though. Light bodied, but a touch clingy with fizzy carbonation. Not sure what to think of this one, doesn’t really fit into any particular style, that’s for sure. A little more hops in here to balance the sweetness and it would be greatly improved.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ebony, fizzy pour with a thin off-white head. Subdued aromas of licorice, toffee, citrus, brown sugar, roasted malt. Slightly dry on the palate with malty sweetness, finishing bitter.
