COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Point Oktoberfest is an authentic Marzen Style Lager Beer, a style reminiscent of the beers originally brewed for the first Oktoberfest Celebrations in Germany during the early 1800’s. Hand-crafted using Hallertauer hops and sweet Vienna roasted malts for a rich amber hue. The result is a full flavored, well balanced beer, brewed in celebration of the upcoming season.

Aroma is of sweet bready malt. Taste is also a bready, but almost roasted. Overall not the best, but not bad either.

Bottle. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Draught from habitat. Amber. Honey malt and caramel. Syrupu taste. Not amazing. Very low hops. Meh.

12 oz. Soured caramel, husky grain, dry grass and a slight metallic twinge on the nose. Flavor is the same mix. Light earthy leaf, toasted nut and chewing tobacco in the long finish. Clear copper with very few, if any, lasting bubbles. Medium body is balanced, has medium carbonation, is slightly astringent and a bit tingly.

On Tap at the Great Lakes Brewfest. First off at the beer fest 2008, poured by the brew master himself. Amber with a medium white head. Aroma of grain, sweet malt and the smell of Munich. Taste of sweet malt, apple, malt and spice. Finishes dry and it’s a bit thin but overall not a bad effort from Point brewery.

12oz bottle, shiny clear amber with a big, pillowy white head. Paired very well with a thick-cut pork chop, maybe the chop influenced my high rating on this brew! Spotty lacing on the glass, nice aroma but no real distinct characteristics, a bit muddled with malt and caramel. Some bite to the flavor, which is surprisingly crisp and on the lighter side of medium in body. Lots of nice sweet malts, mostly balanced by some hoppy bite and a touch of alcohol. Nice for a marzen.

Poured from a bottle a red/gold color with minimal head and lacing. Aroma was primarily of sweet malts with slightly fruity twinge. The taste frontend was mainly of malts with a hint of nuttiness and hay. The finish was of a mild hop bitterness. Palate was decent - not too thin and decent carbonation level. Overall, this is nice, smooth Marzen style brew from the folks in Point.

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2010 Re-Rate: 11-16-2010: 12oz bottle from the Sahara Mart in Bloomington, IN. Pours a crystal clear, golden-orange-copper colored body with a finger-width, frothy, white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing throughout. Aroma is some sweeter caramels with a light grainy toast. A hint of earth, honey, nuts, and bread. Flavor is solid. Caramels, a light grain, honey, toffee, bread, some nuts, a light toast, and florals. Finishes with a light, balancing earth that helps dry this out before leaving a light bitterness and a medium-length aftertaste. Very smooth, light-medium body and soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent Oktoberfest. Slightly better than I remember. Very smooth, pretty flavorful, and easy drinking. Not bad at all. (6,3,7,3,13=3.2). Original Rating: 10-27-2009: 12oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear, orange-copper body with a thin, off-white, fizzy head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is sweeter caramels with a light grain, some earth, honey, and a distinct malty apple fruit. No real hops or toasty malts. Flavor is more earthy with a dry nutty, light toast to go along with a sweeter caramel. Finishes with a light hop bitterness and lingers with a short, malty sweet, semi toasty, earthy aftertaste. Light bodied and very smooth with a nice, crisp ending. Overall, a decent tasting Oktoberfest with a nice, crisp flavor. Not the best, but not the worst. (5,3,6,3,11=2.8).
