UPDATED: FEB 18, 2007 Dark carmel-amber with a tan head, malts and a bit of chocolate on the nose. Seems closer in flavor to a porter than a traditional bock. Malty taste with hints of chocolate. One of Point’s better brews.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 MullMan (1099) - New Jersey, USA - JUN 25, 2006
thanks to Brewblackhole for this bonus in trade. short foamy tan head with a greenish hue. goes quickly. body is a clear copper color. nutty, grassy, sour caramel malt aroma. high carbonation. sour grassy malt flavor, some faint caramel malt. a little raw peanuts. carbonation distracts by making the flavors tangy and sharp. finish/aftertaste is dry and sour grassy malt.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 1FastSTi (2991) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 21, 2006
Pours to a caramelly amber body with a thick creamy pine colored head. The aroma is Munich malt, strange hops that come off as soapy. The flavor is caramel malts, light brown sugar, sweet chocolate, lingeringly sweet. I’m not digging this. The palate is overly sweet and is a turn off. Fortunately, I only spent 99 cents on this brew.

I tried Spring Bock today, with only one month left of production for 2006. Boy, I am glad I had the opportunity. In my area of the country, Point Brewery is one of those local breweries that do not get the advertising of a Miller Brewery nor the critical acclaim of a New Glarus Brewery. For that reason, Point has always been kind of low on my list of "must tries" in Wisconsin. However, I was assured by a friend that the Spring Bock is really something.
I do enjoy heavier brews rather than the grain-tasting water many in the area refer to as beer. This bock is certainly heavy. I drank it from the bottle, but it looked dark enough that I could tell the level of the beer in the brown bottle. It smelled quite malty and sweet, like most bocks that I have tried. It brought to mind a higher-octane version of Leinenkugel’s Creamy Dark, though that’s a different style. The flavor was candy-sweet, but not disgustingly so. I don’t think I could drink bottle after bottle for an evening at the pub, but it’s a great treat for people with spring fever!

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 JohnnyOS (646) - Golden, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 2, 2006
Pours a lighter reddish brown color with medium sized head that lingers. Aroma of carmel malt and some hops. Light to medium body with a flavor that follows aroma.
For some reason this beer make me want to grill-out. I can’t explain it.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 thedm (4117) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - DEC 27, 2005
This bottled brew poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized long lasting light brown colored bubbles that left behind an unnoted lacing. The body contained average carbonation, was transparent and caramel brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of mild caramel malt . Its mouth feel is initially tingly smooth mild with a lingering tingly palate and a mild caramel malt smooth aftertaste. Its flavor contained thin caramel malt notes and a very mild bock like note.
