Bottles from Capone’s. Pours clear deep copper toward ruby with 1-finger splotchy off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, strawberry/band-aid, hops. Heavy nose. Tastes of caramel malt, pretty light on the palate and not very complex, with pretty big hops, some fruit, definite strawberry, cherry, some vanilla, and a finish that gets hot late.

ASA maybe but not really a barley wine. 1dimensional pretty sweet lacks depth lacks hops a bit astringent. Avoid.

Pours a dark brown with almost no head and weak lacing. Nose is potent and fairly generic maltiness with a good dose of hops and booze. Flavor is a zap to the palate and not in a particularly good way; this is a booze bomb with a bland malt and not so stand out hops. Back is a little sticky. Eh.

12oz bottle (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Snifter at 41°. Color is a brownish black with light carbonation and a thin tan head. Aroma is rich and sweet with the scent of dried fruits. It has a lighter medium body with a crisp almost clean mouth feel. Flavor is sweet and roasted with dark fruits and toffee. After taste is dry yet sweet like a red wine. Overall its an odd Barley Wine that feels a little light.

This is nothing special but does scratch the late winter barleywine itch. It is big and sweet and a bit bitter around the edges. I drank about the full bottle w/o really noticing anything sticking out. I guess I would say it’s nondescript but still pretty good.

Bottle aged a couple years or so. This pours a murky reddish-brown color with a thin head that doesn’t cover the entire surface. This smells very sweet with a lot of brown sugar, caramel, and toffee. Some plum and dates in there too. Not surprisingly, the flavors are a tad sweet too but there’s a toasty element to balance that quite nicely. Upfront I get the caramel, sugars, dates, but the finish is slightly dry, toasty, with light bitterness. Overall it makes for a decent warming sipper. Don’t expect anything memorable though.

We had this beer at the 2013 Tops of the Hops in Biloxi, MS. Rob really liked this one.

Draft. Dark amber color with faint head. Aroma has dark fruit and bread. Taste is more of same, fairly sweet, with a strong and bitter finish. Interesting.

12 oz bottle. Clear purple brown with a beige head leaving garlands of lace. Nose is plum, caramel and faint earth. Syrupy with fuzzy carb and an airy alcohol finish. Tastes like candied grapefruit peel, more on the bitter side. Grassy, earthy, barely sweet. Tolerable for a hoppy barleywine.

Clear copper with fair, creamy, tan head / Sweet nose of spun sugar, caramel, and burn / Medium to full body, chewy, good balance but very hot finish / Flavors, though mostly overwhelmed by the alcohol, of caramel, chocolate, and nut, with citrus and oak notes / Not without good points, but ultimately clumsy.
