Pours pitch black with no real head to speak of. The smell is faint, tones of coffee and rich malt. The flavor is rich and very mildly boozy, but not at all complex. There’s the coffee and the malt, chocolate and strong anise, all of which is good... but the brew plays it’s whole hand up front. Not at all bad, no problematic aftertaste, but as Imperial Russians go, this one is a bit pedestrian.

Dark brown with a medium brown head. Aroma is mild fig, molasses and faint spearmint. Tastes like somebody bottled a bad big homebrew with incomplete fermentation and diacetyl. This also doesn’t meet my style expectations. $2/12oz

Dark, roasty, and chocolaety. Albeit a bit light in flavor and aroma, still not bad.

Poured a deep black with a slight khaki head. Nose was not extraordinary, but the flavors were nice chocolate and malt.

Poured from bottle. Aroma of raw grain and fig. Stoutly look. Coffee, nut, burnt caramel, a bit of booze and a touch of spice in the flavor. Quite drinkable. Gets a bit syrupy at the end. Quite nice.

At least nine months old. Pours a medium to dark brown, black in the glass with a small ring of a beige head. The aroma is mostly roasted malt, with some coca and a touch of oxidation. The flavor is lighter than the aroma suggests, roasty upfront , but a little watery and sweet towards the end, with lingering brown sugar sweetness.

Very dark caramel brown with quickly dissipating dark tan head. Roasty nose of cereal, hay, dark dried fruit, and chocolate. Somewhat flat flavors of dark roast malt, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. Not a lot going on. Thin, grain-forward, somewhat flat. Not good.

Pours a black color with a brown head. Aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, and some citrus hops. Flavor is a has a little more hops then I thought there would be. Roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate come out on the finish. Slightly bitter finish as well.

Bottled. Dark brown (close to black) with a fine, light tan head that leaves thin, bubbly lacing. Sweet, brown sugary and graham cracker aroma with chocolate candy undertones - no overly rich or "thick" molasses notes - so the end result comes of seeming a little like campfire smores. There is a slight alcohol note, but not much. Semi sweet flavor, cocoa and caramel malts predominant, with mild smoke and peat. Moderately carbonated. The thin mouthfeel is a real detriment. A decent starter imperial stout.
