2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Black pour with tan head. Chocolate aroma dominates followed by a bit of a harsh paint like aroma, and some abv. Flavor is chocolate, a bit harsh fusel alcohol, grainy roastd malt. Thin and watery lacks body and complexity to me. Not one of my favorites

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Shared 12 oz. bottle at a local geek tasting. Poured to a sampler with a black/brown hue, modest, tan head foam, and light, waves & spots of lacing. The nose was roasty. a little burnt coffee, smoke, with molasses & chocolate sweetness. The flavor added some low hop bitterness in a less than medium body, but couldn’t find the 8.6%. Fairly tasty.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasted on 11/18/11 from a 12oz bottle. Pours like an expected RIS, with an opaque black color and an average, smooth, tan head that slowly recedes, leaving a thin ring of lace behind, with an amoeba of thin lace inside the ring. The nose is roasted milk chocolate, cola, molasses, and a charred savory quality. The flavor is fairly light for an RIS, with the molasses, cola, and milk chocolate at the forefront, along with some roasted and charred qualities in the background. The body is medium with average carbonation, and a long, roasted milk chocolate, lightly bitter, molasses and cola finish.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a thin black with a rapidly dissipating head. The smell is malty and a little boozy. Taste is much lighter than one would expect for a Russian Imperial. It’s not thick & chewy rather very drinkable. Seems more like a porter to me but does an excellent job of hiding the 8.6% alcohol. Overall, solid but not spectacular.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle to a pint glass. Has some of the qualities that makes a good Imperial Stout but falls short. Tastes a little watered down. A good try, but just doesn’t quite get the job done.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(12oz bottle) clear deep ruby with a thick dark tan head. Nose of chocolate, cream and coffee but seems a bit muted in general. Taste of chocolate, cream, watery coffee, old coffee grounds. Raisin linger and creamy body.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
orange brown with more of an off white ring on top than a head.
it smells heavily of nail polish (it’s only 8%!!!)... mixed with grape juice, malt powder, black raisins, alcohol spice and florals.
the flavor is a sweet mixture of the aroma’s qualities along with chocolate, wood and mild molasses.
very light bodied (for an ’imperial’) and not very good. 5/3/5/2/10

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Half Time. Pours really dark brown with a slight creamy beige head. I really can’t find words for the aroma other than treacle. Med minus body. Flavor is pretty much treacle. There’s some balancing bitter, but that cuts the sugar not the flavor. Not even getting a lot of burnt malt. Treacle.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I was a bit skeptical when I saw that the bottle had a screw top. Poured dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma full of roasted malt, molasses, and coffee. Decent sweetness up front with more roasted malt in the middle along with some bitter chocolate. Body is a bit thin. Roast and light bitterness on the finish. This isn’t great by any means, but considering my low expectations and the price point, it wasn’t terrible either.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
THOUGHTS: Not the greatest impy stout, but still a decent beer. But something did seem a bit off about it. Maybe the twist-off caps were defective. It also seemed to be under attenuated.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was nearly black in the glass with slight orangey-red highlights in the light. It had virtually no head and what little was there was tan to light brown and in just about fully diminished with only a little left around the edge of the glass. The aroma had moderate to heavy caramel and chocolate syrup; light to moderate pine, spruce and earthy hops; a little banana; prune juice; cherry; light alcohol; and hairspray. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and lightly bitter; while the finish was heavily to harshly sweet and moderately bitter with a fairly long duration. There was caramel, chocolate syrup, prune, bubblegum, chocolate, tobacco, chalk, metallic hops and pine hops. The medium to full body was oily with carbonation that was a bit soft, but still very tingly and a lightly astringent and lightly alcoholic finish.
