Pours a nearly black, ruddy brown with a 1 finger chunky beige head that has good retention. Aroma is roast, dark fruit, ferment, raw walnuts, a touch of pine and chocolate. Flavor is roast, very sweet malt, dark fruit, and light nutty notes. Palate is medium bodied a little oily and moderately carbonated. Way sweet and somewhat lacking in complexity for an impy stout, but not bad

thick dark pour glazed top after miniscule head.Moderate carbonation ARoma is mild but nice, sweet malt, vanilla, nutty ,maltychocolate, coconut, barleywine almost like, kinda bready also.Very subtle though. Taste right off has a nice drinkability. But smooth and rich but not too rich. Really balanced sweet malt with a nice dry slight roasty/coffee but chocolate. Finishes pretty clean too leaving a sweet/dry balance with a nice mellow bittering with smooth resinous dark malt lingering. Its more milk chocolate/carmel malty in taste with a balanced dryness subtle of darkmalt/smooth coffee. The flavor is what matters and it is overall a very good flavor.Perfectly balanced for my taste of not to coffe roasty dry stout.Another enjoyable whole hog series beer.

12oz bottle 12/22/11 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-46° in Snifter-Pours black with a one finger tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and toffee. Taste of the same with more chocolate coming through. This medium bodied brew is a bit weaker in the body than most but I was expecting worse.

Black pour with tan head. Chocolate aroma dominates followed by a bit of a harsh paint like aroma, and some abv. Flavor is chocolate, a bit harsh fusel alcohol, grainy roastd malt. Thin and watery lacks body and complexity to me. Not one of my favorites

Shared 12 oz. bottle at a local geek tasting. Poured to a sampler with a black/brown hue, modest, tan head foam, and light, waves & spots of lacing. The nose was roasty. a little burnt coffee, smoke, with molasses & chocolate sweetness. The flavor added some low hop bitterness in a less than medium body, but couldn’t find the 8.6%. Fairly tasty.

Tasted on 11/18/11 from a 12oz bottle. Pours like an expected RIS, with an opaque black color and an average, smooth, tan head that slowly recedes, leaving a thin ring of lace behind, with an amoeba of thin lace inside the ring. The nose is roasted milk chocolate, cola, molasses, and a charred savory quality. The flavor is fairly light for an RIS, with the molasses, cola, and milk chocolate at the forefront, along with some roasted and charred qualities in the background. The body is medium with average carbonation, and a long, roasted milk chocolate, lightly bitter, molasses and cola finish.

Pours a thin black with a rapidly dissipating head. The smell is malty and a little boozy. Taste is much lighter than one would expect for a Russian Imperial. It’s not thick & chewy rather very drinkable. Seems more like a porter to me but does an excellent job of hiding the 8.6% alcohol. Overall, solid but not spectacular.

Bottle to a pint glass. Has some of the qualities that makes a good Imperial Stout but falls short. Tastes a little watered down. A good try, but just doesn’t quite get the job done.

(12oz bottle) clear deep ruby with a thick dark tan head. Nose of chocolate, cream and coffee but seems a bit muted in general. Taste of chocolate, cream, watery coffee, old coffee grounds. Raisin linger and creamy body.

10/16/10 orange brown with more of an off white ring on top than a head. it smells heavily of nail polish (it’s only 8%!!!)... mixed with grape juice, malt powder, black raisins, alcohol spice and florals. the flavor is a sweet mixture of the aroma’s qualities along with chocolate, wood and mild molasses. very light bodied (for an ’imperial’) and not very good. 5/3/5/2/10
