COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It just wasnít enough to use a blend of 5 varieties of hops in our India Pale Ale. We needed more. We needed to go wholehog! So, we added a sixth hop and created a more pronounced hop nose and a massive hop flavor for our American twist to this legendary style.

Picked up a four pack from Discount Liquors in Waukesha, Wisconsin. From a 12-oz bottle pours a clear golden dark amber colored brew with a decent beige head that slowly dissipates to a thin creamy head. Aroma of citrus zest, a hint of pine, some golden grain malt and some dry herbs. Taste is medium to full bodied, some grapefruit, iced tea, a hint of spruce and dry herbs. Finish has a sharp bitterness that slowly disappears with a semi-dry aftertaste.

Hazy copper, with a splotchy white head. Smells sweet, mostly, with a lot of caramel and toffee and honey, then some hoppy notes in the background. Flavor is a mix of piney hops and slick, caramelly malt. Nothing earth shattering here, but tasty. Iíd buy it again.

Copper pour with creamy white head and lace. Sweet malt with a hint of resin. Sweet caramel malt with light resiny bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2011 Second try, a little better this time. Less citrus and more dry. Old review follows. Dark copper colored body with a fluffy khaki head on top. The initial nose is oranges with some almonds and toast. Up front, it smells like most big IPAís. Toasted almonds and grapefruit and fairly strong up front. However, the finish is a syrupy sweet mess of orange juice and pistachios. I wanted to like this one more, but the finish ruins it for me.

FROTHINGSLOSH (5077) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 4, 2010
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel-amber color with a huge orange-beige head that lingered. The aroma was moderately fruity, piney and a touch minty with a hint of caramel underneath. The flavor was bitter, tangy and had moderate notes of spruce and pine and lighter notes of fruity and floral hops. There was a hint of mint and a moderate caramel presence. The beer turns a bit dry towards the medium length finish. Medium body. Alcohol well hidden. Solid.

Strykzone (5065) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - NOV 26, 2009
Caramel color with a smallish off white head that soon becomes blotchy. Aroma is sweet fruit, spice, and biscuit. The flavor hits harder than the nose would indicate. An assertive bitter hop profile. Fruit, spice, caramel, alcohol, thick sweetness. The hops remain aggressive but smooth out as the beer warms. Complex hop effects make for a tasty and interesting beer. Much better than the impy Pilsner.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of malt, hops, burnt caramel, light fruit, toasting, and butterscotch. Poured amber in color with a tiny, white head that disappeared except for around the edges. Clear. Slightly sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet and medium to heavily bitter. Tastes of malt, hops, pine, resin, light citrus, and some orange. Medium body. Oily, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, hop, pine, resin, citrus finish is light to medium sweet and medium to heavily bitter. 8.5%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

Clear amber to copper in color liquid. Tallish khaki colored head. Just a few rings of lace. Light citric hops along with some pine in the nose. A bit of grass and some caramel in the background. A hint of alcohol as it sets in the glass. Very smooth and slightly chewy feel. Firm, yet supple, I donít think I have used those terms for a beer before, but they seem to fit this one. Buttery caramel in the front. bitterness overtakes thing in the middle and on into the finish and linger. Some toasted malt also in the middle, but again the bitterness rules. Linger also has a bit of toasted grain. The balance seems a bit off. It seems like a strong Irish red to me.

Draft at the OF. Filtered deep orange-brown color. Solid foamy head. All sorts of orange-lemon peel bitterness. Lots of hop character though mostly on the bitter citrus end of the spectrum. Thick malt backbone, this is definitely a full-bodied, rich IIPA. A touch unrefined, but I can appreciate the intense bitterness for what it is. Worth a try, sort of like an overly assertive British IPA.
