2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
8 oz can, Renaissance Mall in Oranjestad, Aruba: so, I’m married now…and after an amazing day with family and friends my beautiful new wife and I flew to the hot, arid and relaxing island of Aruba. What a great place, and the Cuban cigars and reasonably priced whiskey makes up for the beer that I had to drink. This one quenched a wicked thirst on one of the many 95 degree days wondering around the island. I believe (after peering into the can) that the body was light lemon and I can’t image much of a head…straw and grassy honey flavours dominated a fairly watery (thankfully) brew. The wonderful time I had with Julia made this one that much better!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at Brickskeller, DC: Pale golden yellow with a medium white head that lasts, though no lacing on the glass. The aroma is mildly sweet pilsner malt, sweat, bread, dough, and a light stale hops. The taste is bread, grainy malt, light biscuit, straw, sweet dough, mild yeast. Finishes somewhat dry. Light bodied, medium carbonation, never watery which is impressive.

Standard pilsener, not very special. Head is gone in a few seconds. Not a complex taste. Ordinary beer, not bad.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Dusty, corn flavors, and dry despite a hint of going into the sweet spectrum. Yellow and fizzy. Pretty average for a South American lager, but possibly better than a few of the Central American variety. An extra tenth of a point gets credited for Hugo Chavez, who has a lot of balls, whatever you think of his politics. (Bottle at Brickskellar, Washington, D.C.)
