COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

A very good bitter flavor with a fresh flowery freshness. A bit to carbonated for my taste. Light amber in color with a lasting white head.

Bottle sample poured cloudy golden with miminal foam and carbonation. I noticed some spicy clove notes, hints of esters and a Geuze like aroma. It has a lovely well rounded flavour profile with some initial spice on the palate gently followed by juicy malts, it finishes very well balanced.

Sweet smell accentuates the honied sweetness of the flavor. Light golden appearance, no head, with a sticky mouthfeel. Skunky toward the end.

A: Hazy pale golden yellow body. Moderate sized white fluffy head. Receded after a few minutes. Spotty lacing left on the glass. S: Floral hops, bready malts, quite grainy, light citric notes. T: Orange, bready malts with a little residual sweetness, floral notes, a bit of chalkiness toward the finish. M: Smooth carbonation, medium bodied, nice weight to it until the finish. It has a chalky-dryness to it that is a slight impairment. I don’t mind the chalk in the flavor, but on the tongue it’s a bit much. O: A nice moderately hoppy Belgian ale. Houblon Chouffe is the better widely available offering in the "Belgian IPA" style group.

Late night rate. Poured out a lightly hazy faint amber brew with a huge bubbly head that sticks around well. First sniffs give way to a surprisingly stinky beer - similar to a grassy euro lager. This does fade and is replaced mainly by a mellow sweet orange rind spice. Yeasty here and there, more grass... it’s growing on me. The flavour is average but mellow and it also has grown on me as it is just so damn easy to drink. Light citrus leads directly to a short lived initial bitterness. Lemon maybe... weak watered down pineapple? What is this fruit? Light mid to late taste spice, weak toasted malts, aaaaaaand I think that’s it. Nice foamy carbonation, smooth mouth feel, faint bitter finish. I dig it as a casual drinking in mass quantities. I drank the last half of the bottle pretty much at room temperature. A really good mellow brew.

Goudgeel. Ruikt en smaakt naar graan, behoorlijk bitter in afdronk en nasmaak. Niet te koud drinkdn.
