Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

TAP: amber/orange pour, nose of citrus and yeast, taste is somewhat sour/dry. Decent.

moderate hoppy , beautiful presentation, bitter finish, but should have a little more alcohol to strengthen the finish.

I’m really not a big fan of spice beers. But this might be an exception. It’s very classy and well done. Beautiful presentation, with nice thickish head; and pronounced yet unobtrusive spices mingle together effortlessly. Once in while, you even get a slightly salty note in the finish. But it’s very subtle. It kinda reminded my of Orval in many ways.

A nose of grass and citrus. Taste is of grass, metal, butter and lemon. Finish is bitter, dry and carries a good deal of alcohol with it. Not my cup of tea, really.

An odd beer. Cloudy gold with a thick, bubbly white head. Aroma of yeasty bread and tangy citrus. Flavor is heavy on champagne-like yeast ... very sweet and fruity with a sharp, dry finish. Spicy and, well, just odd. Good, though.

Bottle at Hop Leaf. This dark blonde beer poured with a thin white head and a floral aroma. Tastes more like a tripel than a strong ale, with some pale malt along with banana ester and some spices. Very yeasty.

250 ml bottle. From Poperinge, Belgium. Hazy deep golden colour with small white head. Aroma is very strange and interesting. Like mouldy basement or cellar, soaked birch whisk (doesn’t work very well in English, much better in Finnish: lionnut vihta) and some local hops. Quite dry flavour is also a bit mouldy combined with local hops and alcohol warmth. In one word: Interesting!
