Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

Toffee malt, dried fruit, a hint of oxidation, floral; orange-brown color, suspended sediment; floral, citrusy, really interesting grain flavors, grassy/hay, just a bit of oxidation that works nicely with all the other flavors; medium body, smooth; very interesting, complex, quite good, I like this a lot and it has aged quite nicely. 750 ml bottle, best before 07.

Drank 07-10-2015 during the Splijtstof borrel @ Cafe Daen. Honey is dominant in this beer. Not very special apart from that.

Draught in Ypres. Mid-blonde with the typical malt alcohol aroma of stronger ales. Not the most extreme example of its genre but rather more drinkable and a little more bitter than most. Good.

Bottle from work. Trendy new craft breweries come and go, but this will usually kick most of their asses. So well rounded. Lively, soapy, floral. Excellent lasting carbonation. Honey, dough, mild. Muy bueno!
