COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

750ml bottle, Cloudy with a big foamy head. This is exactly how I thought it would be, with an underwhelming hop character. As far as belgium goes, I suppose it is hoppy. But you might as well create a new category in order to keep belgian and american hop characteristics separate. It’s good, I finished it and it’s only $8.00, so I will probably have another, it’s just not hoppy.

Pale yellow hazy with rich bit creamy white head. Honey sweet on the tongue beginning, followed by short sourness and finishing by remaining mild bitterness.

75cl bottle from MOMH. Pours clear gold, generous white head. Aged cheddar, cut grass, blossom honey aroma. Spritzy. Sweet malt, honey, light caramel, some noble hop bitterness, finishes dry and slightly astringent.

Cloudy golden orange with 2 finger head. Aroma of cloves, citrus, honey. Flavor of honey and wheat with light grapefruit bitterness in the finish. Also has a unique flavor that I can’t place. Lively carbonation and lasting foam.

Bottle 25cl. Golden with a white head. Buxus aroma and some hops. Taste the malt which is nice in balance with the hops. Quite high carbonized. Medium length

Nice Belgian Ale with a rather refreshing aroma of hops and citrus. I expected a lower amount of alcohol.

Bottle says best by June 2014. Pours amber with heavy dark floating sediment. Smell is dark fruit, honey, some oxidation. Taste is oxidized a bit with some lite cardboard, spicy yeast, floral and fruity, lite pepper. A bit old and mistreated.

Jaune brumeux avec un petit col blanc. L’arôme du malt, levure belge et un peu d’houblon. Le goût est d’abord un peu du malt légèrement sucré et du levure belge puis une finition assez amer (pour une belge) d’houblon floral.

Draft @ Grill Next Door. Very floral with some light citrus hints. The dry hopping seems to carry over into the flavor as well, with Belgian yeast, cracker malt, and solid amount of floral notes. Nicely dry texture. Classic example of a Belgian ale and highly drinkable.
