COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2007 From tap at Ølbaren. Pours slight hazy orange with a hue white head. Slight sour/acidic aroma, freshing at first but turns into a slight sweaty aroma. Soft almost creamy mouthfeel. Slight sweet caramel flavoured. Slight yeasty. Minor grain flavour note too. Soft, slight sweet bitter finish. Softly balanced brew. Flavour was good but aroma not quite as expected, I’m unsure if tap lines had gotten infected.

A slightly unclear light orange beer with no head. The aroma is very fruity and slightly hoppy which makes a very nice aroma. The flavor starts out bitter with a good bitter mouthfeel - but very little sweetness - with no palate over the middle of the tongue. A very nice fresh summer beer. The bitternes is a very nice complex one, that lingers.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2005 (Bottle 25 cl) Deep golden colour with a nice, full head - good lacing. I had expected a very hoppy beer and although the hops definately are present they’re in no way overpowering. The candi-sugarish sweetness is more pronounced combined with a floral, fresh fruitiness. A very harmonic strong golden ale. 070795

Not sweet at all but not bitter. Very flavoursome. Dry slightly bitter finish. Well balanced.

Hazy gold beer with a decent white head. Palate is light, airy, semi dry and crisp. Minerals. Light dry malt, very light cream. Good spicy hops. Light herbal note and just a whisper of citrus, but it’s mostly spicy. Crisp hop spicy finish. Refreshing to taste a beer well hopped with noble hops!

Golden color, bright, with generous compact head. The aroma is mildly fruity, and with some vegetables, but nice. The mouthfeel is round and smooth; it has a nice flavor of malt with a touch of cereals and of spices; the moderate sweetness, balances perfectly this beer; correct bitterness.
Very fresh.

Cloudy deep blond color; big head. Good aroma of malt and sugar, lightly fruity. It has a medium body, with a too light malt flavor; it has a very strong bitterness, but the hop qualities are hidden by a too strong yeast presence. Not as good and stylish as I remembered.

2003-11-13, bottle, 8-4-8-4-16=40
Golden to orange color. Very nice malt and hop aroma. Dry flavor, a lot spicy (coriander), malty and hoppy, with a final just more bitter than the average.
