COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

Lovely aroma of good quality blonde yeasty Belgian beer. Medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel. Taste is grassy, citrus Belgian yeast and black pepper with a slightly bitter & spicy finish. A very pleasant blonde at a good price.

Bottle, 33cL. @restaurant ’t Sparhof, Poperings, just a few kilometers next to Westvleteren Abbey. A golden clear orange beer with a medium white head ; medium retention. Fruity aroma (lemon, citrus), resin, herbs. Medium dry bitter ; light refreshing ; light sweet ; warming... Medium body, thin texture, average carbonation, dry finish ; light warming. Overall, refreshing ; nice hoppy aroma ; I would have loved a lighter beer. I will have to taste this beer again.

Pours slightly cloudy deep gold. Aroma intriguing earthy hop with honey and dough. Head lacing as it subsides. Taste sweet intense apricot marmalade with bitter finish and warming alcohol. This is a fine Belgian ale!

Bottle, on the most recent occasion as my apero in the remarkable De Buhne, Bruges.i had bottles of this when I was a young beer drinker, almost two decades before this ratebeer business, and always found it intruigingly hoppy. So I was slightly terrified that my taste buds would be deadened in this new world of hoppy beer. Fortunately not. Light golden colour, big white head. Crisp malts, not interfering. Yeasty perfumy fresh noble hop aromas, moreish bitterness, tastes super fresh. Alcohol entirely hidden, scary really, Superb.

Lots of floaties, golden. Nose is Belgian yeast, grassy, herbal hoppy. Taste is similar, on the dry side, somewhat bitter, a bit boozy. Not much to it.
