COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

Tasty and bitter beer with a nice appearance and fair alcohol percentage. Got it in various locations around Belgium. Mostly the western regions sell it in the supermarket. Comes is 25cl and 75cl bottles. After pouring the beer, a fair amount of foams appears and stays for quite some time. A bit like Duvel but not so much. Taste: herbs, hops ofcourse and bitter, much CO2 but functional as the tastes fly around. All over a very tasty beer with enough alcohol to enjoy!

Bottle, on the most recent occasion as my apero in the remarkable De Buhne, Bruges.i had bottles of this when I was a young beer drinker, almost two decades before this ratebeer business, and always found it intruigingly hoppy. So I was slightly terrified that my taste buds would be deadened in this new world of hoppy beer. Fortunately not. Light golden colour, big white head. Crisp malts, not interfering. Yeasty perfumy fresh noble hop aromas, moreish bitterness, tastes super fresh. Alcohol entirely hidden, scary really, Superb.

Lots of floaties, golden. Nose is Belgian yeast, grassy, herbal hoppy. Taste is similar, on the dry side, somewhat bitter, a bit boozy. Not much to it.

Coded out by 2-3 months. Pours a cloudy darker gold with a very tall eggshell head that settles to a thinner ring and film, and leaves some spotty lace. Nose is quite interesting and involves floral hop notes, honey, biscuity dough, earth and hay, some touches of spice, some essences of tropical and pit fruit, some toast. Fairly sweet, decently bitter. Medium bodied, somewhat oily, toward syrupy, decent action, finishing toward dry with toasty malt and floral hops. Still drinking pretty grate despite its age, making me wonder how totally amazing it must be fresh. Refreshing yet quite potent.

Veramente ottima.

Robe dorée, légèrement opaque. Saveurs de houblon, herbales et agrumes. Notes de fruits jaunes et d’épices. Longue en bouche. Une bonne bière.
