Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

As the name implies a strong hoppy beer, nicely bitter. Bronze color with a frothy head.

Bottle from Nisa, Hebden Bridge. Clouded orange brown with a thin head. Has yeasts and pale malts in its nose, grittier in this respect due to its evident strength. Fairly smooth in the palate.

Pours a hazy golden orange from the bomber with fluffy white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of light herbal earth and a hint of Belgian light fruity esters. Taste follows, clean and crisp, really nice and balanced. Mild, effervescent, nice.

Bottle. Sweet banana/apple aroma. Pours a cloudy dark orange with medium sized head. Flavours of yeast, orange peel and bananas. Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Slightly bitter finish.

Opaque cloudy matte gold with a forthwith vanishing white head. Bubbles eminently visible. Unique, but not concretely robust aroma with notes of apple, yeast, caramel, orange, and banana. Full bodied and vigorous which adequately describes the flavour which consists of apple, banana, orange, yeast, and malt with a pleasantly sweet and hoppy lingering flavour that ensures a lasting appreciation with each subsequent taste. Admirably robust.

Hoppy belgian ale. Golden color, nice and persistent head. The nose is a bit absent. Wonderful honey in perfect balace with the bitterness. Perfect body. Great beer!

Body is bijna romig. Lekker!

Best before November 2017. Pours a clear light gold with loads of foam that settles to aboot a half inch. Smells of earthy malt with spicy and grassy hops. The sweet side could be also an addition of honey. Tastes like it smells. Almost. I taste some bready/cracker in addition to the earth and honey. Bitterness does translate to light spicing and grass. Even keeled beer here and pretty drinkable. I like it.

33cl bottle somewhere in time.
An average belgian ale, grassy, yeasty, little citrusy, high carbonation, crispy texture. Taste is malty, grassy, little sweet, with dry aftertaste.

25cl bottle at home in Richmond, as ’Poperings Hommel Bier’, 7.5%, BB April 2018. Hazy amber orange, highly sparkling, huge dense foamy white head, lots of lacing. Aroma is apple pie, honey, brioche, big sugar vibe, some anise and clove, touch of varnish. Interesting aroma. Body is quite foamy, soft carbonation. Taste is spicy and bready up front, dry and boozy, dusty, warms the gullet, moderate sweetness. Fair amount of booze showing up. Decent.
