Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

An odd beer. Cloudy gold with a thick, bubbly white head. Aroma of yeasty bread and tangy citrus. Flavor is heavy on champagne-like yeast ... very sweet and fruity with a sharp, dry finish. Spicy and, well, just odd. Good, though.

Eftersmaken tämligen alkoholanstruken, men lång. God och stark!

25cl bottle at home (19 VII 2016). Not so naturally looking white frothy foam topping an orange, hazy Belgian ale. It sure has a fresh nose, with grassy herbs, lots of hops and spiritlike hints. The body is quite strong. The taste has a sharp bitterness - coming from four hops varieties - and a sweetish glow adding tot the warm alcohol taste sensation. Lovely brew.

Bottle from Seoul Plaza. Quite big beer flavour-wise, lots of things going on. Slightly warming alcohol presence. Big hoppiness, mostly fruity, slightly spicy. Honeyish moderately sweet malty presence. Big beer and not ashamed of it. High carbonation, relatively refreshing. Very good.

From the 330 ml. bottle with an expiration date of 08/04/2017. Amber-orange pour under a modest head. Interesting aroma of Belgian yeast, sweet toasted malts, and a kind of mossy note. The taste is on the sweet side but the traditional Belgian toasted malt character plays through. Mild hop finish. Spicy. Medium body.

Looks golden and very clear with a medium white head. Smell gives sweet fruit with some yeasts. Taste gives you the same yeasts, some spices and also a bit grassy. Overall, a very pleasant beer that I would happily drink again.
