COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Was once sold as "Poppelmans Brown Ale Vinterutgåva" but is now only named "Poppels Brown Ale".

courtesy of Per - pours a clear brown beer under a persistent beige foam; a solid toasted maltiness with reminiscence of biscuits and hazelnuts; velvety palate, medium-bodied, some bitterness and a long flowery hoppiness to meet more toasted maltiness

@ Havregatan. Flaska från Systembolaget (22:-). Brunaktig färg. Smakar bättre än den doftar. Smakar choklad, lakrits, rök. Ganska tunn med lätt beska.

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with lasting, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of roasted nuts, coffee, chocolate, dark bread and hints of spicy hops. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, dark fruit, coffee, cola, a touch of brown sugar and a gentle spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and quite nice.

330ml bottle. Pours a deep mahogany, with a brown head. Roasted, slightly funky aroma, chocolate, coffee, caramel, toffee, ashes. Dry, light to medium bodied, mid bitterness, balanced CO2. Roasted, slightly acidic taste, chocolate, ashes, smoke, funky notes, charcoal, wax. The bottle is a bit past BBF-date, but a healthy beer shouldn’t collapse like this. There is probably some minor infection lurching in the brewery tanks, since I found the same funky notes in the IPA. (2013-06-15)

larsga (6620) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 9, 2013
Medium beige head. Clear dark red body. Earthy roasty caramelly aroma with rye crisp bread and chocolate notes. Dry roasty earthy chocolate taste with dusty rye crisp brea notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dry roasty chocolate and earth aftertaste with lingering dusty burnt toffee notes. Very elegant and subtle, also easy to drink. (0.2l draft at Bishops Arms, Järntorget, Göteborg.)

Mörkt brun, mycket rostade toner i en rätt dov aroma, lite kaffe också. Ölen växte fram och sista tredjedelen var rätt behaglig.

Dark, mahogny color. Clear. 2 finger beige foam. Dark bread, chocolate, coffee beans, dark fruit. A small body with a ’flat’ taste. Bread, nuts, roasted malt, a hint of coffee and a little chocolate. Ok but not the best brown ale.
