COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Originally only a single batch was made named "Poppels Projekt 001 Dubbel IPA".
By popular demand and winning "Best Swedish Beer 2013" by members vote at BeerSweden was decided to continue in production, though with the same recipe as the project beer.

New batch was released March 1, 2014, at Systembolaget under the (website) name "Poppels Dubbel IPA (nr 88888)".

Bottle. Aroma is mostly fruity, exotic, citrus fruits. Lightly resiny. Comes out of the bottle. Clear golden colour. Taste is intensely bitter with just right malty balance. Very tasty, fruity, citrusy. Easily drinkable. Excellent DIPA.

The aroma takes you on a journey into the deepest forests where grape fruits, lemons and oranges grows together on pine trees (weird, huh?) and the taste enhances that feeling three-fold. This could be one of the best Swedish DIPA’s around.

esox (1141) - Oulu, FINLAND - SEP 27, 2014
Bottled. Slightly cloudy amber color, creamy head. Skunky/resinous hop aroma is strong, loads of floral notes too. Grainy base malt aroma, pale caramel, strong juicy citrus fruitiness. Medium dry. Heavily resinous and bitter finish. Almost full bodied, fresh, prefect carbonation, resinous finish. Wow, this works!

Kopparfärgad med litet ljust skum. Doftar och smakar massor med tropisk frukt, speciellt annanas!! Rund och bra kolsyrad!

As "Poppels Projekt 001 Dubbel IPA"
Sampled draught at Ölrepubliken on October 3, 2013.
Tried it side by side with the APA and the IPA from Poppels.
Light hazy golden color, white head. Hoppy, citrus, but also malty sweet scent. Hoppy, citrus, malty, caramel taste. Medium to full mouthfeel, medium high mouthfeel. Well balanced, not too bitter, still hop dominated.

As "Poppels Projekt 001 Dubbel IPA"
330 ml bottle from Systembolaget in Mölndal. Sampled on October 4, 2013. BB May 2014.
Label marked with 80 IBU.
Clear golden color, big lasting white to off-white head that leaves plenty of lace. Sweet, caramel, malty scent, but wait, that is not the big part at all! Hops, citrus, mango, apricots, fruity, fresh scent is much more dominating, but still in a good way. Close to a 9 in scent actually, very fresh and nice. Malty, sweet, caramel, hoppy, sort of bitter, some alcohol notes, fruity, resin, grassy, citrus taste. Borders to an 8 in taste, just a little bit too bitter and a tad too much alcohol for me to push it to an 8, very close though. Smooth, full, lean mouthfeel, round and nice. Perhaps a bit low on the CO2, very velvety silky rich feel to it. Medium to medium high bitterness. Some warming alcohol. Lasting resiny bitter tongue sensation. Big, sort of bold, but well balanced and nice. If I was more of a hops guy, this would be even better! For the true hop head that likes their DIPA dry and dominatingly bitter, this is likely too sweet.

33 cl bottle as "Poppels DIPA", BB April 2015. Sampled on March 12, 2014.
Clear amber color, medium off-white to yellow head. Fresh, almost intense hoppy, tropical fruits, sweet berries, some malt sweetness scent. Malty, caramel, some alcohol, hoppy, resin, citrus taste. Grainy, hoppy, resin, citrus, alcohol aftertaste. Full mouthfeel, though a bit too high CO2 makes it almost spritzy. Medium high bitterness that lingers fairly long.
I like it, very much so, especially since the bitterness is still kept down as to not completely take over. Fresh and nice and very drinkable, though mind the ABV of course. A bit warming.

Seffle (212) - Mölndal, SWEDEN - OCT 18, 2013
Bottle from Systemet. Cloudy amber with firm head. Lots of citrus in the nose. Pineapple, apricot and pine resin with a full bodied bitterness. Really good and no alcohol sweetness in spite of 8%. Please, brew this again, and again. Poppels best -so far. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
