COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Amigo Lager is a thirst-quenching Mexican lager traditionally served with a lime. A tribute to the beers of Mexico. Salut!

Had several times, however never rate until going to the brewery today. Like the description says"a mexican lager" not one of Lost Abbey’s best. Yellowish with a white head aroma of soem malt an dhops. Flavor of a fizzy carbonated beer from my high school days down in TJ.

clear yellow, wispy white head, light sweet aroma, sweet malt flavor with just enough bitterness to balance, well done for the style

On tap at Pizza Port. Clear golden yellow with no head. Malt and wheat bread aroma. Sweet malty taste with a bready, clean, crisp finish.

On tap at multiple locations, multiple times. Transparent, golden colored pour with a quickly dissipating layer of fizzy white head. Depending on the batch and/or location, I’ve found the aromas varying betweem clean bready grains, light crisp fruits with a hint of grape, and DMS. Light bodied, spritzy carbonated mouthfeel that fizzes out rather quickly. It can be a clean flavored, fresh grain, refreshing hot summer day lawn mower beverage, or it can be a canned corn bomb. I like it when its the former. This rating might be a bit generous, although it’s sort of an average of different experiences ranging from between a 1.8 and 3.0 for my palate.

Served cold, from tap. Clear-gold in color, with a thin white head. It tasted like a decent clone of a Mexican lager, but then again I don’t drink many Mexican lagers. Very light and crisp, but with little flavor.

Last impressions first, this is a poor example of a Mexican Lager; at least I was expecting something close to water, with overtones of corn, and perhaps even some authentic skunk. This beer did not come close. Instead I found a nicely hoppy beer that had a solid backdrop of clean, cereal grain, malt character. It did hit the crispness of a Mexican Lager, but the crispness was contributed by a solid hop biting bitterness in the finish that is quite atypical of it’s namesake beers. The body was also not light and watery enought; it was still light, yet had a nice malty fullness that just kisses the palate enough to let the clean malt character linger on a bit. The hop character leans towards grassy herbal notes, but does seem to have a hint of lemon grass to it as well.

All in all a failure from the cloning of a Mexican Lager aspect. Thank goodness though, because instead we have a nice, easy drinking, hot-weather refresher. I would definitely forgo the recommendation for a lime, this beer has enough malt and hop character to stand on its own two feet.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2007 Rerate 10/30:07: On tap at the Lost Abbey. Much better this time. Not bad, pretty drinkable, certainly low in flavor and aroma. I understand why they use this for blending, because it’s so light. I find it extremely interesting that if you throw Brett yeast into this, and put it into a barrel it becomes a great sour beer. 6,1,5,3,10: 2.5 6/12/07: Wow. Super skunk. It’s so skunky it’s interesting. Glass from a growler a friend got. Mild, and somewhat easy to drink, but kind of off vegetable or corn flavor in the background under the watery flavor. Light yellow color. Little head. This glass is pretty bad for pale lagers. 1,1,3,3,6:1.4

Tap poured a clear gold color with small white head. Aroma was mild malts and lager yeast. Flavor was bland with a smooth finish, not too much going on.
