3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle via trade. Pours orange with medium head. Aroma was floral, pine, sweet malts, and alcohol. Taste was bitter, but at the same time had a sweetness. Could have sworn I tasted some red grapes in there. The alcohol was definitely present and it felt like a big boozy strong ale. I wasn’t really thrilled with it, but glad I got to try this one.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
High powered with a big malt backbone to carry the hops. Thick and chewy, a meal in itself. Sweet too, and pushes the boundaries for my palate in this respect. Regardless loads of fun.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a pale orange color with a foamy head. The aroma is hop driven. There is nice floral citrus notes with pine, booze, and sweet malt scents. As for taste it was strongly bitter but that bitterness was somewhat off set by the other flavors of methonal like alcohol, sugary malts, and slight citrus grapefruit flavor. Overall this was a good beverage but the bitterness was not to my desired liking. The bitter taste was not masked well by the other ingredients.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: 16-oz. mug
From: Trader Joe’s in Mission Valley (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $6.99 (I think)
Purchased: April 28, 2014 (I think)
Consumed: May 12, 2014
Misc.: Bottled April 8, 2014; I’m about 84 percent sure this is the eighth anniversary, even though it’s not on Beer Advocate yet.
Poured a caramel, amber color with 5-to-6 fingers of overflowing khaki-white head. Foamy layered spots of lacing along the sides of the glass. Great retention all the way down.
Smelled buttery malts, rye hops, earthy malts, Simcoe hops, tropical hops, citrus hops, unknown spices, nectarine and orange creamscicle.
Tasted a tad bit better than the smell. Could instantly taste the 10 percent ABV. Boozy, caramel, earthy, tropical hops, orange creamscicle, orange rind and buttery malts.
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, boozy, warming finish.
A decent DIPA, but not quite as good as I remember it (without looking at my previous ratings/remarks).
