Served cold from 22 oz bottle. Pours amber orange in color. Aroma is fruity. Flavor is marked by bitterness, but there is a full-bodied aspect to it that makes it more easily drinkable. Spicy, warm finish.

Thanks to todd for sharing. Pours a cloudy orange amber with a one finger frothy yellowish head. The nose is citrusy and fruity, some pineapple, very fresh and pungent hop aroma. Flavor is citrusy and resinous, waxy bitter/grapefruit rind, some mango. Palate is resinous with a bit more of a waxy bitterness than I’d like.

Hoptagon (239) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - JUN 15, 2009
22oz. Bottle. Hazy orange color with a lacing white head. Pine and tropical fruit dominate the aroma with a note of caramel in the background. Oily and resinous mouthfeel that is on the thinner side with a medium level of carbonation. Huge hop flavor with tons of grapefruit, pine needles and a bit of pineapple. Some bread yeast and caramel malt flavors are noticeable. A quick bitter streak cuts through the citrus flavor towards the end. Finish is a little hot, but also sticky and lingering. Decent, but lacks the wow factor of other san diego imperials.

Bomber shared by OldStyleCubFan at the Carolina Crew gathering - thanks, Todd! While certainly in the same wheelhouse as the 2nd Anniversary brew, I think this is a more successful and certainly more enjoyable version of the style. Whereas its predecessor was a weird combination of bubblegum and blowtorch heat, this brew is fruity, fresh, and relatively mild for the style. Handsome, full bodied, well balanced, a very nice DIPA.

22 oz bottle. Pours a murky tea color with a thin frothy white head that quickly goes to a thin collar.

The aroma is piney fruity resiny hops - a little on the subdued side.

The flavor is sweet caramel malts and tropical fruits followed by a big bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. There’s a noticeable alcohol burn in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is kind of watery.

Overall, other than the mouthfeel, this is a solid DIPA. It’s well balanced between sweetness and bitterness.

Bottle. Amber beer with an off-white head. Grapefruit and pine aroma. Big grapefruit and pine flavor with caramel and light darker malts. Medium-plus bodied. Decent bitterness. Grapefruit and pine lingers with rich caramel. Has that Port/San Diego big sticky caramel backing.

22 oz. bottle from BevMo (SD) - Pours a hazy one finger thick off white head. Light lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus, and tropical fruit. Flavor is fruit, lightly sweetened toasted malt, and nice does of hops. Finish is not overly bitter and pretty smooth for a 2IPA. Full body, almost chewy. A very good beer.

Pours deep amber into a snifter. Beige head recedes to hug rim leaving no lacing. Alcohol-soaked pineapple and mango aromas. Heady. Upfront sweet syrupy tropical fruit quickly turning to a sharp, dry alcohol resin burn.
