COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Port Brewing beers are typically boldly-flavored American and hop-forward West Coast style ales or lagers, and Board Meeting Brown Ale is no exception. An amplified brown ale, the beer is brewed with liberal additions of coffee from local San Diego roasters, Ryan Brothers, and cocoa nibs sourced from famed San Francisco chocolate maker TCHO. Alcohol by volume is 8.5%.

“Board Meeting offers the malty richness and assertive hop presence that you expect in an American brown ale, but enhanced with pronounced roasted coffee and bitter chocolate aromas and flavors,” Arthur said. “I think people will enjoy this beer by itself and at the table paired with meat dishes like pork, roasts and barbeque. I imagine it’d be pretty good washing down a sausage omelet at breakfast too.”

On tap at Lost Abbey. Pours dark brown; medium off-white head that leaves plenty of lace. The nose is immediately hit with a blast of coffee, hazelnut, and dark chocolate. The flavor lives up to the aroma with an explosion of dark chocolate covered coffee beans fading to crisp hops. Well balanced. Not quite as sweet and a bit hoppier than the nose suggests which is a nice surprise. Overall an amazing amplified brown ale.

Draft. Pitch-black liquid; cocoa powder head. It’s two fingers tall and so dense I could probably walk on it. Smooth aroma. Medium-roast coffee is almost acidic, but not quite. Buttery toast, vanilla, peanuts. Tastes like a coffee sandwich -- medium roast beans atop toast, nuts, oat, a hint of cola, and a bite of bitter chocolate, with beans rolling in again after the swallow. Oily medium body, moderate prickly carbonation. Not a hint of alcohol. Incredibly smooth, great coffee flavor.

Pours translucent cola brown with a very thick and rather persistent tan head. Strong aroma has toasty malt, cloves, earthy, cocoa and hay notes. Flavor bursts with toasted malt, cocoa and cloves plus caramel and earthy hints. Firm texture has decent fizz and leaves an earthy finish supported by cocoa and cloves tones. Chair-beer of the board!

Pour on tap at Falling Rock, dark brown pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of cocoa, coffee, some nice caramel into a bit of yeast, touch of spice into a nutty note, more cocoa. Taste was a mix of cocoa, caramel, toffee into some yeast, spice, hints of nuts, finishing with a hint of hops, bitter.

Bottle thanks to Stuu666. Appearance - close to opaque black (not the brown ale it suggests), nice fawn head. Nose - green coffee beans and marmalade. Taste - yep loads of coffee bean. Palate - medium bodied plus and a creamy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - it’s good, but could it’s not a brown ale, it’s not an American strong, it’s a stout.
