3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Lost Abbey. Pours dark brown; medium off-white head that leaves plenty of lace. The nose is immediately hit with a blast of coffee, hazelnut, and dark chocolate. The flavor lives up to the aroma with an explosion of dark chocolate covered coffee beans fading to crisp hops. Well balanced. Not quite as sweet and a bit hoppier than the nose suggests which is a nice surprise. Overall an amazing amplified brown ale.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber purchased 16 months ago at the brewery in San Marcos. Pours a very dark brown (close to black) with almost three fingers of brownish foam. AROMA of hard roasted malts, fresh-brewed black coffee, dark ashy chocolate, and some chipotle or other type of pepper. FLAVOR of delicious dark chocolate, creamy vanilla, lightly milked cafe au lait, and dark toffee. Semi-sweet overall with some lesser roasty bitterness toward the finish. The moderately high ABV is completely concealed here. Not sure how this would differ when fresh, but I really like this somewhat aged version. (276, 886)

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the Lost Abbey Brewery in San Marcos.
Pours black with a good beige head that soon reduces to a ring and partial coat but leaves some lacing.
Aroma: mostly coffee with a faint malt base.
Flavor: coffee overwhelms the dark malts, but it is rather good coffee.
Feel: medium body; medium carbonation.
O: recommended for coffee lovers

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 10C. Dark brown with a light tan head that lasts pretty well. Mocha aroma with roasted malt, some dark berries. Sweet with chocolate syrup, lots of pretty nice coffee. Some mild herbal bitterness comes in at the end, but it’s the coffee that ties it together at the end. Coffee is doing too much of the work here - it pretty dull for its strength aside from it.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown color with a very large head on it. Nose is roasty with some slight bread elements peaking through. Taste is also fairly roasty and slightly bitter. Almost drinks like a porter. Yummy.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Stable brown-tan head over deep brown beer, nearly black. Chocolate, coffee, coffeedrab and dried herbs. Sweet coffee, with chocolate - cappucino without cream? Hint of charcoal impression, but sugared, as the coffee. Very slick to viscous; medium bodied at best, feels well-carbonated. Brown ale usually isn’t very complex. This is a couple of steps upped.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Deep, rich brown with a thick tan head. Aroma is cocoa and roasted malt. Flavor is big chocolate, dark and rich but without the sweetness of a chocolate stout. Light bitterness and sharp hops keep it from getting heavy. Really well balanced and tasty.
