COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Port Brewing beers are typically boldly-flavored American and hop-forward West Coast style ales or lagers, and Board Meeting Brown Ale is no exception. An amplified brown ale, the beer is brewed with liberal additions of coffee from local San Diego roasters, Ryan Brothers, and cocoa nibs sourced from famed San Francisco chocolate maker TCHO. Alcohol by volume is 8.5%.

“Board Meeting offers the malty richness and assertive hop presence that you expect in an American brown ale, but enhanced with pronounced roasted coffee and bitter chocolate aromas and flavors,” Arthur said. “I think people will enjoy this beer by itself and at the table paired with meat dishes like pork, roasts and barbeque. I imagine it’d be pretty good washing down a sausage omelet at breakfast too.”

Pours thick and brown-dog. Great lacing slow to recede. Light body must have been to cross-fit. Flavor could be bigger in fact I find it difficult to describe. So I would drink this during a board meeting for sure because it's weak! Watery. Brown in name only! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

My Bottom Line:
Strong coffee dominates toasted bread notes in this lean and linear strong brew.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the dark brown.
-Body could be fuller for this type of dessert brew and alcohol level. The bubbly carbonation didn’t feel welcome.
-The finish is more of the same, with some roast added.
-Didn’t get the same quality malt flavors from this one as I get from most Port brews.
-Although this had plenty of dessert flavors to share, it didn’t satisfy the dessert craver in me that night.

Bottle.

Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a matte black color with a small foamy tan head that faded and left good lacing. The aroma was toasty, woody, very nutty and had a hint of coffee. The flavor was toasty, nutty and a bit woody with hints of bread, dark fruits, toffee and coffee. Long toasty nut, toffee and coffee finish. Nice depth of flavor. Medium body. Quite nice.

Bomber thanks to Crajun. Dark brown pour, almost stout like, with a frothy khaki head. Aroma of sugar, burnt cookie and brown bread. Sweet flavor of brown sugar, coffee and caramel. Faint hop on the finish, but mostly coffee bitterness. Slight booze in the nasal cavity. Really tasty brown!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A nice riff on a brown. Super bitter coffee, dry cocoa, burnt toast. Super frothy, puffy off white head. Dark dark dark, almost like a porter, with some nice body too. As this warms up it gets overly fruity and the coffee and hops get harsh. So that was a little disappointing. For me I’m picky with browns, so you have to nail the malt bill and i feel like Port just thought of what they were adding and not about the base beer.

Bottle shared by Joes @ weekly tasting. Dark brown to black color with a dark red glare coming through when held into the light. Huge a bit soapy beige to slightly light brown colored head that lasts for a long time. Smell and taste malts, coffee, iron, slightly chocolate. Average body, a bit low carbonated. Hmm has potential, but hasn’t quite got it imo.
