Port Brewing beers are typically boldly-flavored American and hop-forward West Coast style ales or lagers, and Board Meeting Brown Ale is no exception. An amplified brown ale, the beer is brewed with liberal additions of coffee from local San Diego roasters, Ryan Brothers, and cocoa nibs sourced from famed San Francisco chocolate maker TCHO. Alcohol by volume is 8.5%.

“Board Meeting offers the malty richness and assertive hop presence that you expect in an American brown ale, but enhanced with pronounced roasted coffee and bitter chocolate aromas and flavors,” Arthur said. “I think people will enjoy this beer by itself and at the table paired with meat dishes like pork, roasts and barbeque. I imagine it’d be pretty good washing down a sausage omelet at breakfast too.”

Rich and malty with deep roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavors backed by a blast of fresh, piney hops and a hint of fireplace smoke. Smooth and lightly carbonated with the abv covered well, this lingers on a long, bitter black coffee note.

Tasted at La Capsule (Nancy - France). Black body headed by a dark beige-orange foam wich is fine and dense but not lasting. Aroma of coffee is obvious, cocoa too. Taste is similar. Rather subtle and quite rich.

Pours a dark chestnut brown, almost black color thats completely opaque without even he faintest bit of lighter color. One finger beige head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Spotty lace left behind. Huge coffee aroma with subtle earthy hops and a lot of roasted and sweet chocolate malt character. Gourmet roast dominates but it doesn’t smell acid or burnt. Subtle lactic cream presence with lactose sugar and silky chocolate cake/fudge. Smells very good. Slightly viscous and full bodied with a really nice roasted coffee flavor. Great roasted espresso/coffee flavor without being burnt or acid. Creamy with lactose and a silky chocolate malt backbone. Fudge/dessert-like cake, sweet cocoa, caramel, toffee and hazelnut. One of the better coffee beers I’ve had recently.

66 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark brown with a tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are coffee, roasted malt, and cocoa - with a roasted finish.

Bottle. Dark brown in color with a beige head. Cocoa, some coffee and hints of nuttyness in aroma. Quite dark one, even if there’s some bitter greens and bit of hay present later on. Chocolate and mild roasted notes in taste. Bit of toffee as well. Smooth and quite soft on the whole. Some warming notes in the end. Tasty.

Black beer, tan head. Nose is heavy on the stale coffee, cocoa dust, toasty barley notes. Flavor is mild caramel, slight sweetness, coffee, milk chocolate. Finish is stale coffee, dry-nutty notes, caramel, roast.
