Port Brewing beers are typically boldly-flavored American and hop-forward West Coast style ales or lagers, and Board Meeting Brown Ale is no exception. An amplified brown ale, the beer is brewed with liberal additions of coffee from local San Diego roasters, Ryan Brothers, and cocoa nibs sourced from famed San Francisco chocolate maker TCHO. Alcohol by volume is 8.5%.

“Board Meeting offers the malty richness and assertive hop presence that you expect in an American brown ale, but enhanced with pronounced roasted coffee and bitter chocolate aromas and flavors,” Arthur said. “I think people will enjoy this beer by itself and at the table paired with meat dishes like pork, roasts and barbeque. I imagine it’d be pretty good washing down a sausage omelet at breakfast too.”

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau in Redwood City. Amazing aroma jumps out of the glass - complex mix of chocolate, fresh NW hops and biscuit. Deep brown with full brown head. Flavor is rich, full with aggressive hops, coffee, chocolate and solid malt backbone. Great beer!

Medium/heavy aroma of malts, caramel, chocolate, mocha, molasses, roasted malts and coffee.

Opaque black beer with slight yeast and with a slight/medium beige/brown head.

Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel, chocolate, mocha and molasses; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and coffee.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. The aroma is totally dominated by the coffee. That is not a bad thing, since the coffee is really great and authentic both in the aroma and flavour. Has a rich sweet chocolate start to balance it all. Totally understand that it falls under the American Strong Ale style, being a strange, but delicious, mix between a Brown Ale and an Imperial Stout.

This is a nice beer-a-lization of a your standard "coffee chocolate" in a box of a [not cheap] chocolates. There is more a cocoa nib than a chocolate vibe, and the coffee is probably more of the hot filtered [big American-style] jug type. You could say it’s super-smooth (in a hazelnutty way) and the alcohol is hidden well for 8.5%; you could say it’s slightly under-powered.

Bottle. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a healthy tan head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate, coffee aroma. Tastes roasty, malty, bitter chocolate and coffee with a little caramel. Decent enough but quite hard to drink the whole bottle.

Poured from the bomber nice dark brown ale. Tasting the coffee and a bit of the chocolate goes well with the spice of the hops and the 8.5% is straight.
