jah noth (1015), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 30, 2006 My god, beer cannot get much better than this! Light golden in color, fairly hazy, with a nice white head. Pungent aroma of green hops, exploding with lemon citrus and some pineapple. Juicy hoppiness tingles the tongue and is accompanied by tangy malt sweetness. Lingering grassiness but by no means is this hop monster astringent. Fantastic. Thanks Andy! paiste2002 (148), Saugus, California, USA Oct 12, 2008 22oz bottle, the second this evening. Nice hazy yellow/ straw color with a very nice big white head dwindling to some very nice lace. The Aroma is floral, citrus, pine, fresh! Flavor is fresh hops, citrus, flowery, malty sweetness, very very well balanced complex beer. Fresh, bright, crisp, this is what an IPA is all about! It was an eye opener last year, this year I’ve been waiting for this one from one of my all time favorite brew pubs. Had it on tap last Sunday at the new very cool Blue Palms in Hollywood, an incredible experience! Bottle or tap. thegreat78 (32), San Marcos, California, USA Nov 2, 2007 I’ve had this beer once before, but the last time my taste buds were completely shot from something else, so lets try it with a clean palate. Poured into a Sam Adams glass a sort of typical orange/gold color, with a small head, but one that clung to the glass quite nicely. Retention was another plus for the look of this brew. Aroma had lots of nice tropical fruit characters, with pineapple, tangerine, and also a little bit of cantaloupe as well. Taste started off with a burst of fruit, then went slightly herbal with lots of peppery tastes, finally ending with a nice bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel was perfectly medium in body, and prickly on the tongue. This is a great beer, but it also hits you pretty hard with the hop bitterness. One bomber is enough for me. If it is in your area, I say grab one or two for sure. Cheers
hellbilly (1492), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Nov 10, 2007 pours a very unattractive yellowy brown with a thin white head and some yeasty cloudiness. aroma is caramel, malty iced tea, sweet citrus juice, pineapple and grapefruit hops.fresh ’green’ flavor is everything in the aroma without the sweetness. citrus skin hop bitterness and black pepper with some lingering pine. it’s balanced....but definitely leaning hard on the hops. medium to full bodied, nice and dry with a prickly mouth feel. finally, an IPA that isn’t sweet and doesn’t hurt my teeth harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Jan 11, 2009 Bottle from Beer Merchants, delivered to my door by Phil l on Christmas Eve. Simcoe and Centennials in this so it should be good. Gold, slight haze, lasting ivory head. Leafy hop aroma hits you straight off, love those simcoes. It’s big and extreme, but I rather like it. Love the hop. Good in the mouth. Slightly creamy and fullish pale malt. Works really well. Great big hop, very good fresh hop IPA. rayg1 (432), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA Nov 10, 2007 I scored a growler of this at the Angel’s Share release 11/10/07. Pours out a light orange color with a thin white head over top. Upon cracking the seal of this beer you get overwhelmed with citrus smells, even before helping yourself to a glass. As I was saying, aroma is the biggest smack of grapefruit and pine resin you can think of, a beautiful and inviting smell. This stuff tastes so clean of hops. Wow, obviously grapefruit domninates but if you take a second to explore..... pine sap followed by a hint of sugar and vanilla. This is one hell, of and IPA. Fairly modest alcohol makes it very drinkable for anyone who loves hops, and don’t let me fool you this one is all about the hops. deftim13 (103), California, USA Mar 9, 2008 I had the chance to help bottle this one and get a super fresh pint. Huge thanks Tomme.
Hazy bright orange beer with a perfect 2 finger head that leaves lacing for days. . Super piney, grapefruit and sweet malt. This thing smells awesome fresh. Nice mild bitter hop profile with a great citrus tang. You can feel the hop resin in this one coat your mouth. Perfect carbonation and mouth feel. One of the best fresh hop beers out there. It was a pleasure to bottle this one and be able to smell this one all day.
On a side note, I was there when they pulled the hop sacks out of the tank and was floored by the smell. WOW! SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Dec 12, 2006 bottle: Full aroma of classic signature west coast hop overpowering the nose. All citrus of grapefruit and orange with fresh mosit and danky hops defining the smell in more indepth detail. The same story is described as the flavor which dominates with fresh hop and everything i love in an ipa. Appearance is a golden ale with sediment floating about. Soapy and sticky head.
