I poured a 22 oz bottle into a snifter. Dated 9.21.11, this probably would have been better a month ago, but I’ve been busy with harvest offerings from Founders, GDBC, etc. So, when I found this at the bottle shop, I couldn’t resist adding one more wet hop, even if it is a bit past its prime. As usual, Port didn’t disappoint. With a cloudy orange body dotted with floating yeast bits, this raised a 2-finger rocky white head from which emanated a seriously simcoe-ish hop aroma. Flavors followed suit, in classic west coast ipa style, though this is both lighter in body and sweeter in the finish than some in that genre. Port has other things that I like better, and there are other wet hop ales that I prefer to this one. Still, if you put Port and fresh hops together, you’re going to get something good, and this is it.

22 oz bottle from Biggie Wine & Liquor into a pint glass. Orange hazy appearance with a big, lasting white head and sticky lacing. Aroma and flavor of fresh hops, citrus fruits, floral notes, pine, earth and toasted grains. Medium hop bitterness and light malty sweetness. Medium body with a smooth feel and a nice, balanced finish. Good.

Bomber from Binny’s in Bloomingdale, IL. Strange - I love west coast IPAs, and I love this brewery, and this is a very highly rated beer - figured this would be a lock for a winner for me. It is not. Aroma is floral and a little grassy. Grapefruit taste but kind of harsh, finishes quite bitter. This just isn’t hitting the right notes for me.

On tap at the brewery. Clear yellow pour with a white head. Mild grapefruit hop aromas. Medium body with mild tangy grapefruit hop notes. Good malty backbone. Average body and mouthfeel.

Draft - Fresh cut grass and a bit weedy. Cloudy pale yellow with a frothy white head. Bitter, grassy and some more bitterness. A slight sweetness in the finish, but the almost astringent bitterness is overwhelming.

Bottle @ home. Hazy yellow, full fine head. Smells like a summer meadow; cloves, buttercup. Dry and bitter flavour. Missing the meadow there a little bit. Still lovely though.

22 oz bottle pour split. Pours a cloudy orange color with a think foamy lasting head. Fresh floral hops on the aroma and everywhere in the flavor. Bitter hop finish with a touch of citrus as well. A great beer for the hop lover. Really good beer.

Tap. Orange gold. Frothy white head. Aroma, seriously smells like farts. Earthy, resiny hop farts. Fresh for sure. Flavor is resin, lots if pine, some citrus. As good of a Port IPA as the come and great example of the style.
