COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.
Alcohol content varies. Spring 2012 batch is 11% ABV. Spring 2013 is 10%.

Pretty good aroma of resin, pine, caramel and earth but with a slight note of alcohol. Same taste with all the flavors attacking the mouth. Pretty lasting resin aftertaste.

Yellow-orange color, very hazy, with a nice off-white head. Smells of pine, grass, light caramel and hops. not the everyday hops! HOPS like when you put your head in a bag of fresh hop leaves or pellets!!! HOPS!!! The taste was just like the aroma, but with literally everything one can find in an IPA! Pine, citrus, pineapple, grapefruit, fruits, flowers, hops! HOPS!!! Light body with low carbonation! A phenomenal imperial IPA!!

Bottle from Bierkompass. Small, to no head, color is deep orange amber. Decent aroma of grapes, maracuja, peach, grass, sweet malt, honeyed hops with some earthy hints. All in all the aromas dont get in your nose at once, but unfold while the beer warms up. First of all, this beer is pretty much full-bodied, but without ever loosing its balance. Smooth sticky mouthfeel leaves you with a very complex and unusual heavy IPA, which lasts on your tongue very long. Honeyed fruits at the beginning going along well with a very sweet malty note. Peach, grapefruit, lemon even hints of spices dominate the first impression, which gets gently underlined by the malts, almost with a taste of toffee. Its more or less a fruity sweetness in general which stands out the most for me instead than any fruit in particular. Sweetness remains for a long time, just when you think thats it, a huge bitterness kicks in and won’t leave the palate for the whole night. Honestly, the bitterness of this beer is intense, but I love the contrast it creates to the previous sweet flavors. Carbonation is very low, creating an even fuller body for the beer. All in all I imagined this a little more refreshing with a dominant fruitiness and not that much sugar. The end adds up for it, but it is like drinking two different beers in one.

Bottle @ home purchase at Binny’s in Chicago. Pourse orange-yellow with a white head. Aroma is lots of citrus, some pine and sweet malt. Flavor is sweet, citrusy, and some pine in the finish. Nicely done.

Bottle from Bierkompass.de. Amber, hazy body, with small, creamy, white head, that dissipates quickly. Great aroma of grapefruit, pine, other tropical fruits, sharpness, some malt. Taste is very intense, sharp, with pine, grapefruit, mango, other tropical fruits, sweet and grassy malt backbone. Mouthfeel is medium, slick, with a good carbonation and finishes very bitter, with pine, lemon peel and slightly astringent. Although not one of my favourite DIPAs, this is still very good, with a sharp hop bite and a good balance.

ONe of my favorite IPAs, and up there with the heavy hitters in the DIPA business (Enjoy By, Pliny, Summer Yulesmith...) Pours a very hazy yellow, with lots of floaties (hop resin?) Smell is vibrant and piney, with not much of a malt backbone or sweetness. Mouthfeel is huge, full, flavor being big booze, dry enormous hop character, citrus... delectably forward and simple. No sweetness here. Better than Mongo, in my estimation. It’s also a fantastic value ($6.99 a bomber...) Port makes big DIPAs just the way I like them, and this is their best.
