First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.
Alcohol content varies. Spring 2012 batch is 11% ABV. Spring 2013 is 10%.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2014 Pours a hazy, burnt orange color with a rocky three finger off white head. Surprisingly big head for the high alcohol content. Head sticks around and leaves a thick blanket of lacing after it diminishes. Smells of pine, grass, tangerine, lemon, lime, just lots of citric qualities and lots of earthiness on the nose. Very resinous and bitter but get a little carmel malt and some butterscotch in the background in the smell. Taste starts with the citrus fruits like grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, as well as some floral notes. Also get the some carmel or toffee up front. Then in the middle you get more of the sweetness of the carmel malt, as well as the same citrus flavors and floral from before. Pretty juicy, yet subdued in terms of bitterness thus far. Then on the finish the bitterness comes like a rush. You get some citrus fruits with grapefruit being the strongest flavor, accompanied with a much larger dose of grass and resinous pine. Definite alcohol flavor on the finish, along with some sweet malts. Iíve had many other dipas as this level of alcohol that do a much better job hiding it. Very chewy from the hop oils. Very biting and abrasive bitterness that lasts in your mouth. Has a wonderful creamy mouthfeel that works well with the bitterness. As it warms, more of the carmel malt shows through and becomes a little sweeter. Full body with a sticky and oily texture. Not the most balanced double ipa, but Port was not going for that. They wanted to show off the hop, and they definitely succeeded in doing that. A very intense and surprisingly somewhat balanced double ipa.

Pours a slightly cloudy copper color. Has no real head retention and lacing, but that is due to the abv. Smells hoppy and piney and floral. Tastes hoppy and delicious. This is a good beer.....

1 Pint Bottle from Bridgend Service Station, Freuchie for a fiver! Pours a darkish amber. Bit of a haze about it. Fluffy and thick white head with real staying power. Really good lacing. Fruit salad with particular mango and peach aromas. Orange oil and pith. Pine is present. Bit sweaty. Bit of dankness. Real warmth on the nose from the alcohol. Thick and slick sweetness to the taste. Really peppery. Deep orangey caramel note. Medium to large bitterness. Reaches itís peak and lingers with length on the finish. More warmth from the alcohol....packs a bit of a punch. Not the freshest bottle but still has grit!

Poured from the bomber, chunky dark orange, with a tan tinted white 2 finger head. This one is spicy, sticky, piney, super strong, and dry at the end. I donít mind paying the $9- for a bomber with this kind of power.

Tumbler pint glass. Pours amber with a rather thick and lively carbonation. The aroma is full of hops and so is the palate. This is really a beer for the hop-lovers.

Brews n chews. I know this is a top 50 DIPA but it has long since been surpassed by the new big guns. Just a big syrupy bitter boozy bomb.

Draught at Lost Abbey/ Port Brewing Taproom San Marcos, 23.4.16. Clear gold with a white head. Citrus aroma followed by plenty of tropical fruit - mainly mango. Tastes hoppy and bitter grapefruit followed by a little bit of mango. Medium body, light, hoppy finish.

The aroma is dank, complex with notes of pine resin, earthy pepper and floral citrus. A bit of caramel malt also shines through with a hint to the coming booze character. The flavor is all of the above, but above all hot and boozy. The character of the beer is decent but lost in the defect. Pours clear and the body is med/light. Finish has some bitterness but mostly boozy.

Citrus green hop aroma straight to the nose from this hazy orange brew with an outrageous off white head of coarse bubbles. Bitterness at first for a second then hop flavor followed by the sweetness of the Malt and a medium body. The aftertaste is hoppy and slightly bitter and a slight warming from the alcohol.
