First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.
Alcohol content varies. Spring 2012 batch is 11% ABV. Spring 2013 is 10%.

750 ml Bottle #10 from Foolish Mortal. The beer and aroma came alive during the pour with an overwhelming bouguet of hops. The head was abundant, off white, and moved like Jell-o when agitated. Burnt amber in colour and fairly clear with active carbonation, and clinic lacing. It was surprisingly sweet initially, changing to a heavy, lasting bitter aftertaste. The beer tastes balanced initially, but has the distinct bitter aftertaste you’d expect. The beer was like a vertical tasting in itself, with different hops apparant in every sip throughout the entire beer. Definately worth a try for hopheads.

650cl bottle shared in a Four Hands shaker. Pours orangey amber with a voluminous off white frothy head which last throughout the drink. Aroma is massive hops - all types, grapefruit, resin, pine everything associated with an IIPA and more. Taste is more of the same - massively juicy hops with the malt very much cowering into the background. A truly massive and chewy IPA that stands alone at the top of IIPAs I have tried thus far. Can’t see this one being beaten anytime soon.

Bottle at home. Nicely cloudy golden colour, big creamy white head. (Barley wine-)Sweet malted, big on fruity, floral and piny hop tones with orange peel getting through most. Quite a strong bitterness, but not overpowering. Sweet, fruity aftertaste. Big body, low carbonation.

Perfect imperial iPad in my opinion. Huge grass hop aroma and somewhat floral without being perfume like. Flavor is of fresh hops and well balanced hop bitterness with light malts. Awesome!

Bottle. Sensoric. Golden/amber, little hazy with big, white, semi-densed head. Poor lacing, good head retention. Nice medium tropical fruits aroma along with citrus (grapefruit) notes. Light to medium piney aroma. Booz is quite recognizable. Taste is high bitter, in the middle some semi-sweet sensations (malty backbone). Medium to full body, creamy texture, average carbonation finish is very long and very bitter with some booze. Alcohol warming in the end.

Aroma of malt, caramel, ripe tropical fruits, citrus, grapefruit, orange, sugary notes, pine, huge hops. Flavour is moderate sweet with a long bitter finish. Impressive explosion of aroma and flavour. I couldn’t find the bottle date but I suspect it had aged a bit. Will look for fresher bottles... in the future!
