First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.
Alcohol content varies. Spring 2012 batch is 11% ABV. Spring 2013 is 10%.

Serving: from tap at Zippy’s Giant Burgers, Aroma: moderate pine hop. Appearance: small, frothy, off-white, initial head with fully diminishing longevity and very good lacing. Hazy, light-amber body. Taste: moderately bitter initial taste with moderately bitter, grapefruit finish and long duration. Palate: medium-bodied with dry texture, lively carbonation and lightly alcoholic finish feel. Overall: very good. Not harshly bitter but a bit too bitter for my taste.

From notes. Enjoyed while on a work trip out to Cali with some colleagues at Congregation Brewpub on September 29. The pour is a dark orangey gold, relatively clear, with a thick white head and a pretty hefty lace left behind. The aroma is bitter citrus for days. There is a ton of pine resin and a light, yet earthy citrus. The flavor is much of the same. The bitterness is resounding. The pine resin and citrus peel work well together. There is a hint of light floral hops and a decent maltiness on the finish. The mouth feel is a little thick and lightly syrupy. There is a brighter carbonation and a lingeringly bitter resin and citrus with a sweetness on the way back. This is a lot better than I was expecting.

Gorgeous Cooper color with a two finger high tan head, fabulous lacing all the way down the glass. Smells earthy and sweet. Taste of pine, earthy floral citrus, alcohol and ear wax bitter (in a good way!?). Just enough bready malt sweetness to balance it sufficiently.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2016 Bomber into wine glass. Dark tangerine color, no significant head. Slightly sweet nose pokes through abundant hops. There’s the barest hint of cardboard - this is an older bottle not kept in the most ideal of conditions, so I’ll make allowances. In the mouth, good balance of high alcohol stickiness x prominent but not overwhelming pine and fruit 9th t hoops,a bit of malt. Long finish bouncing between hoops and malt . I?m not a huge hop head or high ABV fan generally, so this isn?t exactly pinging my preferred style proclivities. Nonetheless, quite nice.

Pours a slightly cloudy copper color. Has no real head retention and lacing, but that is due to the abv. Smells hoppy and piney and floral. Tastes hoppy and delicious. This is a good beer.....

1 Pint Bottle from Bridgend Service Station, Freuchie for a fiver! Pours a darkish amber. Bit of a haze about it. Fluffy and thick white head with real staying power. Really good lacing. Fruit salad with particular mango and peach aromas. Orange oil and pith. Pine is present. Bit sweaty. Bit of dankness. Real warmth on the nose from the alcohol. Thick and slick sweetness to the taste. Really peppery. Deep orangey caramel note. Medium to large bitterness. Reaches it’s peak and lingers with length on the finish. More warmth from the alcohol....packs a bit of a punch. Not the freshest bottle but still has grit!

Poured from the bomber, chunky dark orange, with a tan tinted white 2 finger head. This one is spicy, sticky, piney, super strong, and dry at the end. I don’t mind paying the $9- for a bomber with this kind of power.

Tumbler pint glass. Pours amber with a rather thick and lively carbonation. The aroma is full of hops and so is the palate. This is really a beer for the hop-lovers.

Brews n chews. I know this is a top 50 DIPA but it has long since been surpassed by the new big guns. Just a big syrupy bitter boozy bomb.

Draught at Lost Abbey/ Port Brewing Taproom San Marcos, 23.4.16. Clear gold with a white head. Citrus aroma followed by plenty of tropical fruit - mainly mango. Tastes hoppy and bitter grapefruit followed by a little bit of mango. Medium body, light, hoppy finish.
