COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Collaboration Stein beer from Tomme Arthur and Tonya Cornett of Bend Brewing.

It’s not too often the brewing process requires us to make beer in a mind over matter sort of way. Hot Rocks Lager presented us an opportunity to work with Tonya Cornett of Bend Brewing Co. on a collaborative project. Working with our brewers to bring her recipe to fruition, she decided to "Rock It" old school.

You see, not too long ago, brewers produced beers by pulling glowing orange rocks from raging fires. The sizzling rocks were heated until they glowed like hot magma and were then dropped into the wort causing it to boil. Smoke, steam and volcanic rolling boils became the hallmarks of what German brewers call "Stein Beer". Hot Rocks Lager was brewed this way and transported us back in time. The production of this beer made for a memorable experience. As collaborations go, this one ruled. Because as everyone knows, playing with fire is cool.

On tap at Tustin Brewing. Woody, smoky aromas from a dark brown body with a tan head. That light smokiness and dry, lightly charred wood follow in the flavor along with a nice milk and semi-sweet chocolate taste and brown sugar. Finishes with a little sweetness and chocolate. Looks heavy but it’s quite light and very drinkable and tasty.

Bomber into a glass. Pours a deep and dirty mud brown mixture with no clarity. Huge frothy medium white brown head, extensive lacing, retains well. Aroma of coffee, cherry, brown malts, a relaxed vibe to the nose, some choco, and velvet frosting, a small booze kick mixed in. Taste of a solid brown lager, just fluid with an easy going lager kick, grass, some soft citrus tones, carbonation is perfect and adds to the relaxed vibe. Abv settles in accordingly, I wish this was more readily available, like in six packs, a nice beer here, perfect lager.

Bottle, also taster at LA/PB. Aroma is smoky plus dark malts. Obviously not your average lager. Taste could fairly be described as stout x lager -- you get the choco and coffee notes up front with a clean finish. If "stout lager" sounds good to you, drink this. Sorry to be so basic.

DWF; Bottle at Cardinal. Pours dark brown with moderate lasting, bobble, frothy, lacing tan head. Nose is heavy malt, bread, moderate chocolate and coffee, light grass and citrus. Taste is moderate sweet, spicy and light bitter with a moderate finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is flat.

On tap at the brewery. Dark brown pour with a light brown head. Enticing malt aromas. Lots roasted malts, but not bitter or overly roasted, with caramel and chocolate undertones. Great body and mouthfeel. A fantastic Dunkel. Coffee.

Bomber from Binny’s in Bloomingdale, IL. Dark cola pour that looks a bit dense, and a nice frothy head. Good looking beer. Aroma is a bit of raisin and tea. Fuller palate, slight bitterness. This is pretty darn good.

Thanks to rejtable for this. Pours a dark reddish brown with a small white top. Aroma is slight caramel and earthy hops. Taste is a very well balanced lager.
