3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 ineedbeer (215) - Oakland, California, USA - MAY 12, 2013
Aroma is fairly fruity with some balanced roast and chocolate malt but the malt is fairly subdued. The fruit is plum, cherry an fig. Slight oxidation notes. Medium caramel an light toffee character. Pours a dark brown with ruby an garnet highlights. Very clear beer. Thick, medium head with decent persistence that slowly recedes leaving a film on the edges. Flavor is maltier than the aroma with some balanced chocolate an roast, but balanced more towards roast. Very fruity with cherry, plum and fig. Some caramel and toffee. Moderate bitterness. Some light coffee notes. Low astringency. Slight oxidation in the flavor as well. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied and a touch watery with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a nice beer, but I let it age for way too long and it has become overly estery and a bit oxidized. The malt character seems to have faded but I remember it was nice when fresh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2nd September 2012 Opaque dark brown porter, good pale tan head. Smooth palate, a little dry and airy. Light touch of dark malt, no roast or bitterness but some sweet lactose. A little tang. Touch of fruits, well buried. Light dry finish. Something of an ephemeral porter.

from Erzbierschof - very dark brown beer almost black with a poor head retention; roiasted aroma of black chocolate, notes of tar; tasty and lively palate, a good malt body, a subtle yet fair carbonation, moderate bitterness; the finish is fizzy, quite dry with long notes of chocolatey and roasted malts and some hop presence as well; light harshness and slightly sour
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 teorn88 (1222) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 3, 2013
12oz bottle. It pours a dark brown colour with a large tanned head. Aroma is mostly roasty with chocolate, nuts and some earthy notes. Taste is sweet-acidic with typical porter notes mixed to an unexpected fruitiness, like a sour berry or something. Silky in the mouth with moderate carbonation. One of a kind.

Bottle at a NYE tasting. Pours a very clear brown. Sweet malty aroma with notes of coffee, maple syrup, and biscuit. Crisp taste of syrupy malt goodness with a slight hoppy back and some walnut. Nice porter. Only complaint is the palate is a bit thin for the style.
