3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 cakanator (452) - South Hadley, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 5, 2011
22oz bottle. This one was so underwhelming. Poured out nice however, pitch black dark, decent off white head. I’m not sure how this is a swarz, however some decently smoke, but really this is just a black lager that underwhelms. Smooth and silky, but thats about it, no discerable attributes that really make this one stand out. Bland.

Caramalty aroma. Poured a darker brown in color. Flavor is a smokey lager with a bit of a roast finish.

Port Brewing
Midnight Sessions Dark Lager
Not a huge lager fan, but thought we would give it a try. Pours very dark with a slight reddish tinge at the edge of the glass. Medium tan head with decent retention. Aroma of malt and black tea with a hint of coffee. Taste is of a subdued stout with hints of coffee and dark malt. Very smooth, but not sweet enough for my taste. I could drink a lot of it, but I could drink a lot of Bass too. Somewhat dry finish. Not bad, but not my style.

Dark color, dark rich head, extremely light however. Very much a shock to my tastebuds.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 beersearcher (1974) - Glendale, California, USA - JAN 1, 2010
Pours a really dark color and there is a bit of a roasty aroma to it. After pouring it looked really good but the taste was a little thin to me. I would prefer Full Sail Session Black.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 snakeoilpete (324) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 11, 2009
UPDATED: APR 2, 2009 Pours black with a thin dark tan head. Nose is a thick meaty smokiness with some coffee. Not really my thing. The roasted malt and coffee flavors are more prevalent in the taste, but the smoke is there too. Finish starts a little like sour milk but has a nice lasting bitter coffee taste.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 fiulijn (12360) - Malmö, DENMARK - AUG 5, 2009
2009-06-12, bottle blind tasting at Papsø’s, 6-3-6-3-11=29 Black color. Papery aroma. Quite basic Stout, maybe smooth and creamy, with too much burnt malt, maybe in the end (that is even quite harsh), and too bitter.
2009-05-13, draught at Nørrebro Bryghus, Copenhagen, 5-4-6-2-12=29 Black color, solid big. Aroma of roasted malt and paper. Weak body, with a sharp roasted malt flavor, somehow rounded by a smooth mouthfeel, with a quite strong ending bitterness. Not bad, but without some real vibe that the Germans can give.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 unclemattie (3735) - Georgia, USA - FEB 2, 2011
22oz bottle. New to GA. Black color, tan head. Toasted grain scent. Flavor of burnt cereal. Sweet coffee, some wood, and charcoal. Not for everyone’s palate. A bit too carbonated for me.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 killjoy966 (676) - Washington, USA - AUG 11, 2012
Half-pint from Chuck’s @ $3.00. I’m rather surprised on how high this rating is. This tasted bland and watered down (literally water-like). It might have something to do with the palate ruiner I had previously with habanero peppers.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 DavoleBomb (1467) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 17, 2011
Poured into a flute.
3.5 A: Very much overcarbonated, but didn’t explode out of the bottle. First pour gave me 1/8 glass beer and 7/8 head. Anyway, black color. Several fingers of frothy soda-like light brown head that retains well, but doesn’t lace well at all.
3.5 S: Roasted barley up front. Light dark fruitiness, but this is very soft. There really isn’t much going on here.
3.0 T: Again there isn’t a whole lot going on. Light roastiness and a subtle fruitiness. Not bad, but there are plenty of other Schwarzies out there that offer more.
3.5 M: Light body. Overcarbonated. Very smooth though.
3.5 D: Like I said before, this is okay, but not my schwartzbier of choice.
