3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap @ Parkway. Clear gold pour with a short white head leaving heavy lace. Grassy, ganja nose. Medium body with medium carbonation. Spruce, ganja, toast, singed caramel and some citrus. A very nice IIPA, but a ways to go before it matches the best.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 30, 2011
In short: An aggressive grapefruity/lemony hop bomb lacking a bit in the malt department.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh (probably fresh) 4 weeks after purchase.
The look: Small particles float in a cloudy golden-orange body topped by an enormous white head with good retention
In long: Nose is an aggressive attack of grapefruits, fresh oranges, apricots along with some spicy grassy notes. This is a hop-bomb, no doubt. Taste is more of the same. Like eating a bitter grapefruit with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, some bitter orange peels, some acidic lime and lemon skin, some kiwis. The basic flavorless bready malt backbone is disappointing. Not only does it taste like your grocery store commercial white bread but it is also lacking presence. Because of this the unfiltered body feels a bit like a yeast soup, which is something I have criticized many Europeans Double IPAs for. Bitterness level is high and very sharp. Nothing resinous or round here, this is a razor-blade sharp acidic bitterness that pinches your palate. Maybe a little alcohol bit in the finish but it goes mostly unnoticed with that biting bitterness. Carbonation is relatively smooth for the style and that’s ok me it, this beer is aggressive to the palate enough as it is. Too much so actually. This is not a well-made beer, but it is one that will nonetheless bring some level of satisfaction to any hophead like me. So I read on Port Brewing site that this beer was brewed in honor of a cat knicknamed Mongo that was born at the brewery and died too young. Sad. I wish people were like cats and we all had nine lives, then killing someone would only be considered impolite.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured into a pint glass.
4.0 A: Heavily hazed dark yellow color. Two fingers of off-white, frothy/creamy hybrid head. Decent retention with lots of lacing.
3.5 S: Piney and citrusy hops and lightly sugary. Main culprits are grapefruit and orange. Not very complex from the hops and the malts don’t contribute much of anything. Moderate yeastiness rounds out this beer.
3.5 T: Like the nose - hops and yeast with no malt component. Piney and grapefruit again with tropical fruits. Focus on orange, pineapple, and maybe some mango too. Again, not very complex. Yeastiness gives an overall bready vibe.
3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly creamy and reasonably smooth.
3.5 D: I’m not really that impressed with this one. The bottle conditioning covers up a lot of what is right with this beer (the hop flavor).

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
22 oz. bottle. A huge off white foam that takes forever to fade and is so big 3 pours were required in my 22 ounce glass. Sticky chunky lacing. A hazy, yeasty golden orange beer that is well carbonated. A nice rich pine and bready aroma. The flavor is huge hop effects. Pine, big bitterness, grain, complex citrus and passion fruit, and some orange peel zestiness. This is a blueprint for a fine IIPA. Very tasty.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The aroma is hop filled citrus scent. It’s a very lively batch, bubbling about like a fish tank. The appearance is a mildly roast amber, an translucent bronze with a thick egg white head that sits about like sea foam.
On first taste I get the aroma of citrus hops, possibly cascade, followed by the bittering hops and citrus flavors of grapefruit lemon and malts. It has a strong bitter finish with lemon grass burps.
The palate is great, tickling with lively fizz. Bitter and long lasting and thin on the texture.
Overall great beer for 5 bucks.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
pours a hazy golden, hazy color with average white head and little lacing. aromas of strong citrus: grapefruit, lemons, tangerines. taste is sour with some light sweetness and mild bitterness on the back end. body is medium with some lively carbonation. overall, this one represents the west coast IPA’s well. with a nice dry, long, bitter finish and solid hoppiness, it hits the spot.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is strong floral and citrus hops, grapefruit and a touch of pine, some malt in the background. Pours hazy and light golden, lots of floating particulate, thick off-white head with good retention. Flavor is hop-forward with citrus and tropical fruit notes dominating, mango and grapefruit with some pine sap resin. Decent light caramel/toasty malt backbone, but malt is pretty much cast aside by the hops. Medium body and carbonation, solid IPA.

Bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Pours clear golden with a huge creamy white head. Aroma of grapefruit, mango and some pine. Taste is strong bitter from those fruity hops, dry and smooth mouthfeel. Ends dry and bitter, with a lingering anesthetic feel to my palate, excellent.

Crushed at GABF ’10. Big hoppy brew. Right up my alley. Not completely overpowering, but pretty packed. Big citrus, grapefruit, and bitter hops. Awesome.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a murky orange with a big, creamy off-white/yellowish head. Good lacing. Sweet citrus and pine hop aroma with a bit of a bite. Malty background. Sweetish, slightly greasy, citrus and pine hop flavour. The alcohol is present, but creates a full-bodied profile rather than interfering. Tart, bitter hop finish. Lingering bitterness with a touch of liquorice. Me likey...! 21.06.11.
