May 31, 2009 Bottle, 22oz. A next to black beer with a small, tan head. Vanilla, alcohol, coffee, some chocolate and roasted malts in the aroma. The flavor is rather sweet, with alcohol, vanilla, roasted malts and coffee-like bitterness. Full-bodied and warming. Long, roasted finish with a good bitterness. A quite intense beer, maybe a bit too much, but really lovely and tasteful. (090508)

It pours a pitch black colour with a light brown head.
Aroma is liquorice, chocolate, coffee roasted malt and caramel, with some alcohol to it.
Flavour is well balanced with lots of roasted malt, liquorice, coffee and chocolate. It has a long liquorice aftertaste.

May 24, 2009 On tap at the brewery in San Marcos. Pours a deep brown, almost black body with a two-finger width, dark brown head that dissipates very slowly leaving a lot of heavy lacing. Aroma of sweet malts with lots of chocolate, licorice, piney citrus, figs, and some bourbon woodiness. Dense roasts and some coffee too. Flavor is huge. LOTS going on. Lots of chocolate, molasses, vanilla, licorice, piney citrus, bitter coffee, wood, bourbon, dark fruits, dried prunes and figs, and some muddy toffee. Palate is full, rich, and completely mouth coating. Some warming alcohol with a drier finish. Overall, a damn intense brew. I would put this more toward the Imperial Stout than American Strong. Hard to completely find balance in something like this, but wow...fun stuff.

May 23, 2009 22 oz. bomber bottle, several years cellared (lost track). Pours opaque black with a small tan head that leaves some lace. Superb strong aroma of chocolate, sweet fig, licorice and some vanilla undertones. Flavor is equal to the aroma with a well balanced leaning sweet, fruity and chocolatey malt character, and a slightly salty drier finish and some warm alcohol. Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Excellent strong ale bordering on imperial stout.

May 22, 2009 22 oz bottle. pours dark brown almost black with small tan head. Aroma is chocolate ,roasted malt coffee. taste is chocolate, cofee. The more it warms bourbon flavor comes through.

May 15, 2009 Bottle at RnH Drink for Charity. Thanks to everyone who brought great beer to this. Dark fruit caramel brown sugar and wood aroma. Woody rich dark fruit with brown sugar and woody finish. Nice rich woody texture.

May 14, 2009 Bomber (2009) in a snifter; pours an oily black w/ a non-existent off-white head; aroma was dominated by bourbon, chocolate and above all, roasted mat; flavor was slightly smoky w/ a little vanilla to go with the chocolate and bourbon. Full bodied, yet smooth, ending on a persistently bitter coffee note. Nicely done.

May 12, 2009 Bottle at the “Drink for Charity” event at Rattle & Hum. Pours a flat black. Utterly still. Even with constant agitation, nothing resembling a head could even be forced to form. Roast, chocolate, and some dark fruit. On the nose. Man is this hot. Big glaring alcohol overpowers the thin body and makes this rather unpleasant. Roast on the finish is made a mere memory by the alcohol yet again.
