UPDATED: NOV 3, 2007 This is the second time I have blind tasted this brew. As written last time, I would have liked to re-rate this brew, and I guess Papsoe made that possible. Once again thanks Henrik.
#10 [Blind tasting @ Papsoe] Small creamy light brown head that mostly diminished. Fair display of lacework. Very dark mahogany coloured. Initial sniff gives the impression of vanilla, roasted malt, molasses, chocolate, rye bread. Very vinous with bourbon and oak feel. Also some underlying hoppy notes. Full bodied with an alcoholic texture and an average carbonation. Heavy sweet flavour with light bitter notes. Lingering bitter finish. Quit nice. 4 / 8 / 8 / 4 / 16 = 4.0
First rating 26-03-2007 3.5 Bottle. [Blind tasting session @ Sk8viking] #4 Small light brown head that mostly diminished. Colour was dark brown. Aroma was molasses, chocolate, roasted, plum, date, wood, smoke, brown sugar. Medium to full bodied with a flat carbonation. Flavor was moderated with light notes of bitterness. Like sunevdj said, a bit like a sweet stout. Think I need to re-rate this one if I get the chance.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 21, 2007 Good gravy, this is one oleaginous mother of a beer! The brewers might call this an American Strong - and itís got plenty of strength, no doubt - but itís more like a seriously smooth old ale, with occasionally roast-tastic overtones of imperial stout. Pours a deep dark brown with just a hint of lace, with a huge bourbon-y head. The alcohol is a bit too present at first (something that obviously may change with age) but the chocolate is booming, Jack. A smidgen of hops, but this is thick like molasses and a big jolt of flavor. Very nice, and will no doubt only improve with age.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Thick dark XXX with coffee and chocolate aroma. Taste with my eyes closed is certainly imperial stout. Smooth and drinkable but I am getting stout first and foremost.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 4, 2007 Bottled. A pitch black and somewhat murky beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is acidic with notes of vegetables combined with chocolate. The flavor is like slightly acidic chocolate sludge combined with notes of grapefruits, leading to an end with a slight alcohol burn. The body is thick.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle a gift from my buddy Odeed!!! Nose of dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and a bit of floral hops (kind of stouty) opaque dark brown with a medium, hangs in there, glass lacing, tan head; flavor of bitter chocolate and hops, body is a thinner medium with the hop bitterness lasying to a smooth finish. I like this better than itís oak aged brother!

Bottle sampled at the Hard Liver tasting, poured into a Snifter glass. Pours a thick murky black with no head. Raisins, chocolate, and licorice aroma. Flavor is HUGE in cocoa, bits of burnt dark fruit, notes of molasses, and hints at espresso. Big, big, lovely beer!!
