TeamTrappist (365), jericho, New York, USA Jul 28, 2008 Bottle. This poured dark black and oily, with a wispy sort of white foam, very, very thin. The nose was strongly related to the barrel it was aged in, along with chocolate, and molasses, and other good things. This things thick, not exactly a summer beer, but thats what air conditioning is for right?
Very rich flavor, which followed the nose and maybe added some coffee too. Definitely syrupy, with a light subtle fizz to it. I really liked it, and enjoyed the bitter finish. I could see wanting to lay a bunch of this down, as there was a fairly strong alcohol bite in the finish. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 28, 2008 Got this from Boltz7555 a long time ago and just decided to break this out for no good reason. Pours black and thick with a thin tan head and definitely lives up to the motor oil references. Bourbon, roasted grains, chocolate malt, oak and vanilla all come flying out of the aroma. Makes you sit there for a while just trying to see what might be around the corner with this aroma. Chocolate malt, roasted grains, vanilla and bourbon all pop up at some time during tastes. Thick chewy and tasty with a nice roasty grain finish. Nice balance of flavors and worth all of the ratings, very complex and lucious beverage. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA Jul 28, 2008 Thanks for sharing Mark: Mmm....molasses. Also smells like chocolate milk. Some dark fruits - perhaps cherry. Creamy mouthfeel. A little bit of a hop presence here but this is mostly all chocolate malt. Marsiblursi (1631), Göteborg, Sweden Jul 20, 2008 (Bottle) Pours dark brown, black in the glass. Small brown head. The aroma is heavily dark malty (medium roasted and light burned) with tones of dark bread, dark caramel, coffee, dark chocolate and light molasses. Undertones of dark berries and dark fruits like black cherries, black berries, blueberries, figs and prunes. There is also some room for salt liquorice, sal ammoniac, soy and new asphalt. Mild hoppy on the nose with a tiny touch of citrus. Hints of butter and vanilla. The flavour is of medium to full roasted and light to medium-burned malt with a light to medium citric and resiny hop backdrop. Lots of dark fruits and dark berries. Sal ammoniac, salt liquorice and soy are present in the flavour as well. The mouthfeel is thick; light oily, chewy, soft, smooth and a tiny bit sticky. Full, swirling body. Just fantastic. nbutler11 (729), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 15, 2008 Plenty of alcohol present in this beer’s aroma, but once it hits your lips it’s all about the instense flavors of coffee and dark chocolate. cmillward (419), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle. Thick black body, tan head. Massive aroma of chocolate, vanilla, rich malts, with smokey bourbon notes. Sweet, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, a touch of alcohol as it warms. Sticky thick mouthfeel, not cloying at all, the carbonation is smooth and leaves this creamy. Drying from the roast and residual hop bitterness. Killer. Bourbon notes in perfect balance with the rest. oteyj (716), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Jul 12, 2008 Jet black with beige head. Aroma is heavily roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocoalte, raisin and molasses. Flavor is quite well balanced- hops and malt are quite prevalent in the proper proportions. Nice hoppy finish with dark fruit and caramel malt. Smooth and stucky mouthfeel. Will definitelty have this agian- oh wait I still have another bottle... Jblauvs (531), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 12, 2008 dark viscous pour. black fruits, very dark and yummy. alcohol is present but its well balanced with the malts. very good. well aged, i want more.
