Definitely not your Dad’s Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that’s as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

Bottle shared with friends from Saveur-Biere - Color: deep dark black liquid. High viscosity and no carbonation with small brown head. Smell: caramel, toffee notes, roasted malt, black bread and high coffee nose. High complexity on nose. Taste: nice sweet palate with good viscosity. Roasted malt domination with coffee and chocolate notes. High sweet sensation. Small alcohol taste. Explosive sensation! Aftertaste: nice coffee taste with malt balance. Really nice work! Amazing beer!

Clear dark brown body with a medium to large brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, some caramel, coffee, some dark fruit, some woody bourbon aroma too. Taste is medium sweet with medium bitterness. Long finish, full body. Nice strong ale. Really liked it.

65 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with a little sediment and a tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are roasted malt, chocolate, liquorice, and alcohol - with a bitter finish.

Bue en bouteille. Une tuerie absolue ! Bière noir profond, complexité incroyable au palais. Boisé, grillé, les saveurs se mélangent. Pointe vanillé et café sur la finale. Wahou !

22 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled 10/23/2013. Black with 2.5 fingers of frothy tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, caramel, subtle dark fruit, a bit of amaretto. Tastes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, some floral hops, caramel, some oats. Full body with a dry finish. Nice thick oily mouthfeel. Medium-low carbonation. Very nice even with a bit over a year on it, don’t really get much barrel character if any so maybe that’s faded.

Bottle (22oz $6.50): Color black with two finger light brown head the disapeears leaving lacing. Did not get a lot of armonas. Taste is strong roasted chocolate and a little bit of coffee. Little sweetness. Seemed similar to an imperial stout.

Pours pitch black with a beautiful head. Aroma: chocolate, espresso, raisins, with a touch of alcohol. Taste: very well balance between the coffee (sourness) and chocolate (sweetness) with some alcohol (generally well hidden 10% ABV). The beer is pretty thick although I have expected more thickness from "motor oil" (as advertised on the cover). Generally this is a very good beer. Something between a strong ale and a russian imperial stout. I was expecting it to have more features of the latter and therefore was a bit disappointed. On the other hand that was not a wise expectation since there is not a single word on the cover mentioning it is a RIS.
