Glouglouburp (2782), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 25, 2008 In short: A thick and tasty Imperial Stout calling itself something else. An orgy of roasted malt balanced by intense resinous hops. Fantastic
How: Bomber. About 6 months old.
The look: Black body with a small tan head.
In long: Nose of a bowl of molasses in a candy store. Fantastic body, syrupy yet silky. Thick caramel, molasses and chocolate cover a dense layer of roasted cereals. Roastiness level is medium relative to the style (unofficially imperial stout to me). Very chewy. More floury chocolate notes as it warms-up. A touch of smoke. A little red liquorice on the comeback. So far so good but where this beer goes from very good to excellence is in the hop department. Intensely hopped, very resinous and strong bitterness. What a tasty beer. You know Port Brewing is confident about this black beer to dare giving it a name like that. With that type of quality their beers will sell no matter what. I can’t wait for their Armpit Sweat pilsner.
turbo (1254), Arizona, USA Jan 21, 2008 Black with a medium sized chocolate head.
Aroma of burnt wood, black chocolate, coffee and alcohol.
Flavor is rich and thick. Strong sweet roasty malts, coffee, chocolate, oily and smooth. Cloying mouthfeel, can taste and feel the alcohol entering my blood stream. jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Jan 20, 2008 Motor oil pour with thin tan head. Nice tan lacing on the glass. Aroma screams imp stout. Chocolate, roasted malt, and light notes of vanillla. Thick mouthfeel that you almost have to chew this beer. Taste is chocolate, coffee and dark fruits. Alcohol definitely present. I prefer the Older version but this is a great beer. How is this a strong ale?? Dough77 (771), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jan 19, 2008 Exteme dark black pour with medium sized dark chocolaty tan head. Nose is huge on chcolate and caramel malts, with a big roasted note carrying from beginning to end. Some descent dark fruits mixed with very minimal hints of cherry. Very smooth going down a bit sweet and potent on the alcohol but it is a real treat. LtJudge (431), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Jan 19, 2008 Pours a dark brown color with a small tan. Aromas of chocolate, caramel and roasted malts. Nice thick body reveals flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, dark fruits. Nice hop bitter to finish out. Awesome brew for my 300th rating! Thank you Brewblackhole! pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jan 19, 2008 Very very dark brown to black with a healthy chocolate head thinning to smooth even film. If this isn’t a stout, then I just don’t know what a stout is! Big chocolatey roasty licorice nose smells a lot like Expedition. Perhaps a bit more of anise and chocolate. Less roast. Thicker; smooth, small even bubbles. Big aggressive flavor. Bigger roast. Bigger malt sweetness. Sticky aggressive piney hops. Anise is huge. This is a nasty big beer with long lingering roast. Quite a lovely big beer, in my opinon portermax55 (118), Canterbury, Connecticut, USA Jan 17, 2008 22oz. bomber. Pours a thick, dark black with a thin, dark tan head that dissipates quickly. Heavy aromas of chocolate, caramel, roasted malts and sweet fruit with a slight hint of spice. Flavor is of chocolate, sweet fruit, caramel, and spice with a bitter finish. Very good balance of bitter and sweet with this brew. Mouthfeel is smooth and thick, with an almost glossy feel. A great brew to enjoy! grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 15, 2008 Bottle.
