Commercial Description:
Definitely not your Dad's Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that's as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

A very nice beer. Though bourbon aged, the bourbon is only a slight element. Wonderfully viscous and went down nicely.

22oz. bomber. Jet-black ichor with minimal head. Smooth coffee/mocha aroma, backed by the strong alcohol. The flavor is actually somewhat restrained, sticking to the dry side of the style, rather than delving into the winey fruit character that other brews explore. This goes down rather easily, so watch out for the alcohol content later.

On-tap. Pours black. No hues or colors can be seen when held up to the light. Thin but dense brownish head that lingers through the entire glass. Not a huge nose for me. Smells of deep dark malts, coffee, and a little chocolate. Tastes of coffee and chocolate, with some grains and malt to back it up. Thick, but not too thick. Doesn’t obtrusively coat the mouth or throat. Good carbonation for a stout. I wouldn’t drink more than two pints before lightening it up a bit.

Pours a nice head that has retention. Smel is sweet with a light roasty tone. Tasted great, great balance of sweet dark flavors and roastiness. Smooth with a little burn, but not enough to cover up the great smoothness. Overall I found this to be a great beer, that’s well balanced and ful, FULL of grea flavors.

Delicious rich chocolate, cherry, lightly roasty aroma. Opaque dark brown color. Nice, thick feel with moderate carbonation. Very nice.

First of all, this is totally an imperial stout (why is this listed as an American Strong Ale?) Deep, dark brown (completely opaque) with a light brown head. The aroma and flavor had tones of milk chocolate, prunes, cherries, alcohol, and a genlte roastiness. The feel was thick, very wet, with medium carbonation. Very nice beer.

(650ml bottle) Sampled at Oakes 2007 Christmas party. Brown head with opaque body. Nose is spicey and soya sauce, coffee. Flavour is straight cocoa with a mild spiced finish. Okay.

A: An exceptionally aggressive pour into my DFH snifter resulted in a jet black body with a half inch mocha colored head. S: This is an incredibly complex aroma. I’m not sure I even know where to start. It is very apparent that some of this beer has seen the inside of a bourbon barrel. That is the primary aroma I smell here; sweet oaky bourbon. That is followed up by raisins, chocolate, and caramel. Reminds me a bit of World Wide Stout or some kind of strong Old Ale. T: Again, the oak and bourbon are right up front. This is a very boozy tasting beer. There are raisins and a touch of burnt something. The flavor fades into dark cocoa. In short, the flavor is very sweet and fairly boozy. M: Nice medium heavy body with good smoothness. Many times I’d associate a beer this oaky with a thinner body, but this one is nice. D: I’m gonna let a couple more of these age and try them in a while. It seems to me like they’ll get better.
